The lid is also a tray for larger items and protects the buttons and scale surface when not in use. I will buy a 500 gm calibration weight at a later time, but it does not seem to need it since I have been using American coins to check the accuracy of the scale from time to time. So far the scale is consistent and performs well every time I have used it.

Being a Weight Watcher I struggle the most with eating out and feeling confident in what I'm eating. I recently bought this scale to carry in a little bag containing my spray butter, salad dressing, sour cream and anything else that I might need while dining out. This small scale is easy to use, very accurate and discrete. The lid acts as a tray to weigh the meat portions of my meal. I simply take a sandwich bag to slip it in when I'm done. You can't beat the price here on Amazon. I've seen this scale triple the cost on other sites. If you diet and are tired of guessing your portion size get this scale!

I got this scale so I can weigh out certain foods because I am on a diet. I also have the AWS AMW-100 scale as well, however that only goes to 100 grams and I was extremely limited on the food I was weighing, so I decided to move up to this 650g version.



Firstly I will say it is much smaller than I was anticipating. The AC-650 actually has a smaller weighing platform (width wise) than my AMW-100 model. Based on the pictures with the lid acting as a expansion tray, it was made it to be bigger than it really is. But realistically, this is just about the same rectangular size and shape of a iPhone (although much thicker and a bit taller). Heck, it even looks like a cell phone to some degree.



The scale itself looks very slick, it has a unique style of plastic that almost resembles those rubber-plastics you often find on phone cases, although while it doesn't feel rubbery at all, it has some similarity. Either way, a great texture. The weight of the scale is also good, as it feels heavy for it's size which makes it seem more robust.



As for the actual weighing feature of the scale, it works great. Accuracy is more than good enough for me, I have a old 100g weight from my other scale and it weighed it exactly at 100g right out of the box. I also really like the easy to use, perfectly sized on/off button, which is a huge step up from my AMW-100 scale which had flat, sunk-in style buttons. So far it has been working just as good as my other 100 gram scale, and the TARE feature is really useful (I didn't know what this feature did until I got this scale).



Now for the con. The lid that comes with it might be a problem for some people. As it is not really secured to the scale when it is in place, so it can easily come off in transport or if juggled around in a drawer too much. The lid is also made of hard plastic that is easily crackable. It's nice to have it separate so I can expand the size of my weighing surface, but I much prefer the style of my AMW-100 model, where the lid is attached on a hinge and snaps shut when not in use. But hey, for a scale that only cost me $11 plus free shipping, I really can't complain here.



Overall I like the scale. The increase from 100g to 650g makes a HUGE difference for me, and has expanded the potential food items I will be able to weigh on it. Not sure if it will last as long as my AMW-100 (which still works great) but only time will tell and I will edit this review as necessary.

This scale works fine for most things. However, even when I first used it the weights of whatever I was weighing out would always teeter-totter +- .1. The same nickel would sometime weigh 5.0, but other times 5.1 or 4.9. Overall, it works, but there are better ones out there for the same price

I received my scale in less than a week but when I unpacked it the included and installed batteries were dead. No problem, I just replaced the batteries. Well, I found out why the batteries were dead; this thing turns itself on after being off for about 10 seconds. It seems to be accurate but I have to install and remove the batteries every time I use it.

The product is fantastic, not only was the price more than reasonable, but the scale works better than any other I've owned. However the shipping was off by three days, I am not sure that was due to the postal service, or the company, but I believe it was USPS. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a quality scale for a reasonable price....as long as they have some time on their hands.

I bought this to weigh letters to get the right postage. However, the scale is so small and so close to the ground that it is impossible to put anything larger than an ordinary envelope on it, without the ends resting on the ground. I did, however, figure out that if you take a larger envolope, say 8.5-by-11, and rest it on the edge, you can get the correct weight. Click here for more information This scale is a great value for the .01 gram precision it offers. Once calibrated it is quite sensitive and accurate. Mine came quite far from calibrated, but based on the other reviews here it appears this is only a fluke. The scale is lightweight and very portable, being roughly the same size as a Nintendo DS Lite. Build quality is good; it looks like it will last a long time if used properly and carefully. Comes with two AAA batteries and a space for storing a pair of extras. Very nice scale for the price.



One hint about calibration: if you forget to buy the 100g calibration weight, you can simply use 20 U.S. nickels, as each nickel is exactly 5g.

I purchased this exact scale from this seller for reloading. Its important to have .1grain resolution, as is advertised. It does not, its .2grain. Contacted seller (scales n tools) they said that it was a manufacturing change and offered to take it back. Fair enough. They still havent changed the ad on here though, so they are purposely misleading people with false advertising.

I've had this scale for a couple years, and I'm very happy with it. It's accurate, repeatable +/- 0.02 grams on different days, and has held up through moderate handling (nothing abusive, but stuff that I'd never put my lab scale through).



It uses what I call a "floating zero". This is good and bad... When within 0.03 grams of zero and steady, it displays 0.00 and slowly adjusts its zero. If you slowly add 0.01 grams at a time, you can get it to drift way off, and when you eventually take off all the weights at once, it'll display -0.20 grams or whatever their weight was. The good is that the scale, despite its inexpensive mechanism, keeps very good zero calibration between measurements. The downside is that it makes small measurements difficult. If you want to weigh out 0.15 grams of powder, you can't just tare your weigh paper and then gradually pour it on - the zero will drift unless you add the first 0.05 grams quickly enough. Instead, you can NOT tare it, and manually subtract the weigh paper.



This feature is not a problem at all unless you're weighing very small (less than 0.1 grams) items on a regular basis. Click here for more information I really wanted to like this scale as it was cheap and looked good. Out of the box I liked the sleek design, but that is where it ended. Weights seem highly inaccurate, and worst of all fluctuate all over. Today weights were within a 10 lb range, but since I got this over a week ago they have been in a 20 lb range. I thought I was doing something wrong, even looking up some online info on how to use these properly (the instructions that came with it were pretty lacking). But no, I was using it on a hard surface (hard wood floor) and not moving it. I'll be returning it to Amazon if they let me. Major disappointment.

My wife recently purchased this scale. The scale itself is probably a three star product. Pretty cheap and lightweight. Not really sure it will stand up for the long term.



What was alarming was that the company is offering Amazon gift certificates to put up a review. I open the manual to look for the warranty information and there it is detailing how to put up a review and offering a $10 gift card to do so. I was shocked. I put a lot of stock in the reviews on a product and when I see a company blatantly paying for them its pretty alarming.



Buyer beware. I know my wife reported this to Amazon but I will be doing so as well. This is a three star product at best when the company isnt bribing people.

I bought this for my elderly diabetic father who needed to track his weight for health reasons. What originally sold me on this scale was the supposedly extra large LCD display however once I saw the scale, I was utterly disappointed. The screen is nowhere near the claimed extra large, and even I had a hard time seeing my weight, let alone my elderly father who has a hard time seeing already. On top of that, I can't really vouch for the sturdiness of this scale. the weighing platform does not feel as stable as i'd have hoped. Plain and simple, they shouldn't even be advertising "Extra Large LCD" on this scale because its exactly what it lacks!

I have owned a few digital scales over the years, and this one is pretty darn inaccurate. I ran a series of tests on it, mostly with dumbbells I had in my home ranging from 10-25 pounds. The tests fell into two categories.



1) Weighing the dumbbells themselves. The 10 lbs dumbbell weighed in at 10.6 pounds. The 20 lb dumbbell came in at 20.2 and the 25lb came in at 25.8. So while they were all in a bit heavier they were within a tolerable range.

2) Weighing myself with the dumbbells. This is where the results got alarming. After calibrating the scale and weighing myself, I then picked up each of hte dumbbells in succession. The 10 lbs dumbbell only added six pounds to my weight! The 20 and 25 pound dumbbells were also consistently low. I even tried putting them on the platform rather than holding them but it was still really wrong.



My conclusion is that cheap scales use cheap components. Ill be going back to Taylor, which frankly I never should have left. Returned item.

I guess I was expecting a lot out of this scale, but the scale seems to be a lot less accurate than I had hoped for. It was about 1.5 lbs off the scale at the gym, which wasn't a real big deal. I figure I would just add 1.5 pounds and that would be my weight. But then I started running some tests, picking up items and placing them down. Often times the items wouldn't register a weight change at all, showing the same weight as if I hadn't picked anything up. If I calibrated the scale per the instructions, a lot of times the weights would show up to be pretty different, with deviations as high as six pounds.



I have owned a few of these digital scales over the years and this one is just about the same mediocre quality as the others. I dont care how much a scale costs...you should be able to get on and off and get the same weight at the very least. If there is no accuracy then what are you paying for. My husband can guess my weight for free.

This scale is light but sturdy. It seems accurate, though I don't have a second scale with which to make a comparison. I wish I could say it reads more than I weigh, but I doubt that's true!



I like the fact that it does not require the annoying tap-and-wait-for-zero preparation action: just stand on it and wait for the final reading to flash three times. The numbers are large and easy-to-read.



Regarding some of the other reviewers complaints about the company "bribing" people for a review: there is nothing in their offer that requires a positive review. All they are doing is offering to compensate their customers for their time to make a review. This is no different than Dunkin Donuts or D'Angelo's offering coupons for filling out a survey online. Without this offer, I probably wouldn't have bothered to write this review. But I stand by my assessment.



I have not had the scale for very long so I cannot assess its durability over time. But so far I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this product to others. - Digital - Weighing Scale - Affordable - Accurate

The biggest problem that I have run into is that the power save feature turns off the scale while I am still adding chemicals to the weight dish. When you turn the scale back on, it zeros itself out. It slows me down alot. Other than that, it has worked fine so far. For the price, I'd say it's a good deal.

It's accurate and would be good for a wide variety of uses. It's nice that it takes 2 AAA batteries instead of the expensive flat round ones that die out very quick. For some reason the expensive scales (over $20) always seem to use these batteries.



It's definitly a good scale at $8...if you want something nicer with a stainless steel weigh surface spend $20 or more on a better one. The scale is ALL plastic and made in China, so know that before buying.

The little scale turned on with no problems, but I quickly realized that it was giving results that were very inaccurate. It would measure 10-15% less than a calibrated scale. No problem, I thought, as the instructions said it just needed a quick calibration. The problem, the ONLY way to calibrate it is with a 500g weight. My calibration weight kit does not contain this, and to purchase this weight is 2 to 3 times more than the cost of the scale. Defeats the purpose of an economical, small scale. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt by giving it 2 stars, with the assumption that it may be accurate if it came calibrated. I'm off to buy a different scale now..

It was 100x smaller than i thought it would be! When they say "pocket scale", they mean it! This thing is smaller than my wallet, but a little bit thicker. Gets the job done for me, weighing out chemicals for backyard pyrotechnics and the like.



Pros:

+ 500g capacity, with .1 resolution, aka: 35.7g as an example reading, but also has oz, dwt, and ozt modes.

+ tray that doubles as cover to keep dust out

+ tare/zero and calibration functions

+ small! fits just about anywhere

+ bright backlight and easy to read numbers

+ simple to operate, ready to go right out of the box with included batteries!

+ 2 AAA batteries, not those rare button types!

+ black color and fairly easy to clean

+ made of plastic, nice and light

+ gets the job done!



Cons:

- its very small size might make it hard to weigh bigger containers/items [but im sure you could figure a way around this, something flat, tare/zero function...]

- someone else pointed out the scale auto-powers down after a short delay, which can happen while you mentally calculate how much more you need to add.

- a super slight deviation at times, such as: 45.3g then after several seconds shows 45.4/45.2g and then goes back to 45.3g. [so if you need absolutely precise measurements, you need to go look for a professional scale], this is a non-issue for me, one decimal precision is much better than +/- 2 whole grams...

- it is made of plastic, so dont expect to drop it off a table multiple times and have it be accurate, but the price makes it a no brainer to just buy a new one



All in all, this is an awesome deal! I am very tempted to buy 2 or 3 more if I find some money...HDE was very quick, 3 whole days before the expected delivery time, and received the exact product as advertised. Its the performance you would expect from a product 3-5x the price [yes including shipping].



If you need a very small portable scale that works, look no further!

For a small inexpensive scale this one works great. It is very sensitive and does a great job for a pocket sized scale. Be carefull to make sure you have the weighing tray centered on the weight sensor though, with it's high level of sensitivity it is easy to get a false reading if you do not have the tray in the right position.

I purchased this scale so I could weigh small packages/envelopes and print out USPS First Class Mail (FCM) shipping labels with exact weight in ounces. I'm glad to say that this scale has not disappointed me.



If you print out your own USPS FCM labels online then you get free Delivery Confirmation so this scale has already paid for itself at least 3 times over. Before I was going to my local post office and purchasing Delivery Confirmation for .90 cents for each package but now with this little wonder I can weigh my own packages and save cash. If you mail several small packages every week via FCM then the savings really do add up.



Despite it small size (2 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" long) it can weigh large envelopes because the cover also acts as a supporting tray. If you mail 8" x 13" bubble wrap envelopes frequently like I do then this scale will be perfect.

Click here for more information I just got this scale to replace an older digital scale that broke, and I'm very impressed.



To weigh yourself, you step on the scale, wait about 3-4 seconds for the scale to stabilize, and look at the reading. The weight is easy to read -- large numerals with a backlight. The only drawback of the backlight is that it will increase battery usage. You have a choice of units -- pounds, kilograms, or stones.



The scale itself is very sleek and low profile. It's 11.8 inches (width) x 11.7 inches. Some scales (both digital and analog) make a clunking sound as you step on, but this is totally silent.



Like most digital scales, it has to be placed on a hard surface such as tile or wood.



Some digital scales have a "fake repeatability." That is, if you weigh yourself, and then hold a small weight and step on again, it gives exactly the same value. This scale doesn't have this undesirable feature. If you hold a small weight, it gives an honest result.



I measured the variability of nine readings. The range (max minus min) was 0.4 pounds, and the standard deviation was 0.12 pounds. This is excellent, and much better than my previous scale.



I think that the absolute reading is very close to correct, but I haven't had a chance yet to compare this scale to the one at my doctor's office.



The instructions warn that the glass surface is slippery when wet. It's not a scale you want to use after stepping out of the shower or bath.



Update January 2011:



After 18 months (and one battery change), it's still working perfectly, but I want to add one more point that other reviewers have mentioned. You do need to remain very still after you get on the scale; otherwise the reading may not lock. To make it work, I stand still for about 5 or 6 seconds. Just stand still and look straight ahead; don't look down at the scale until this time has passed. Occasionally the first reading fails. In that case, step off, wait for the display to go off, and get on again. If the first try fails, the second one almost always succeeds. A person with a balance problem, however, would have difficulty getting a good reading.



I've confirmed that this scale displays a weight extremely close to the one at my doctor's office. (There's no guarantee, of course, that other scales of this model will be equally accurate.)

Just bought this scale & am already packing it back up to return to Amazon for a refund.



I unpacked it, removed the battery strip, set it to pounds & tried it out as soon as UPS delivered it.



The first number showed a 5lb difference from my old scale, but since I could get three different numbers when weighing three times in succession on that scale I assumed it was just that the My Weigh was accurate.



Not so much.



The next time I got on I was holding a 5lb bag of flour...and it gave me the exact same number as before.



I tried this same process using my hand weights, but the My Weigh scale could not read the weight difference accurately.



When I added a 3lb weight it showed a difference of 1lb.



When I added 6lbs the My Weigh showed a number 4lbs less than the original number.



Yes, I had this scale on an even, hard surface.



If a scale cannot accurately gauge the difference of adding or removing small amounts of weight...then it is nothing but a dust collector.



Back to Amazon it goes & the search for a new, accurate scale continues.

I am so happy with this item that it has prompted me to write my first amazon review. I looked at scales for hours, and I decided to buy this one based off of the reviews. The first surprise was how nice this thing looks. The pictures don't do this thing justice! It just flat out looks better in person than it does in the pictures. I was not expecting this to be so sleek! It is about as thin as a couple of magazines stacked on top of each other (maybe thinner) and it has a very attractive glass surface. The next surprise was how accurate this thing is. I get very consistent readings. Last night I decided to do a little experiment. I weighed myself 3 or 4 times in a row and got 188.0 every time. I went into the kitchen and drank a glass of water. I then immediately weighed myself again and got a reading of 188.8. Thats good enough for me! The only con I can think of is not that big of a deal: you have to be pretty still while you weigh yourself to get the scale to lock in on your weight. If you were thinking about getting this scale - I say go for it!

This is the best scale we've ever had. Was very inexpensive. It is stylish, and works well. You simply set kilo or pounds, place on a hard surface, and step on. If you move it (significantly) you have to reset it because it senses the surface and calculates weight based on the set. It does not sense anything under 10 lbs, and only holds the display for 10 seconds, then automatically shuts of, so you would have to get back on if you missed the weight. That might be a little confusing for some children or first time users. I have tried stepping all over the scale to see if it gives a different weight for different foot placement, but it seems to be the same everywhere. I have also picked up objects that weigh a few ounces to see if it is actually accurate ...and it is! Click here for more information . . . . in light of all the glowing reviews read! Based on other purchasers' experience I purchased this product. Looks good, very wide - as advertised, but disappointingly inconsistent. Followed all instructions, to the letter, but never managed to get it to weigh the same twice. Both my husband and I tried, and both got varying weights. Not helpful when embarking on a weight reduction regime, so it is unfortunately having to go back. Thank goodness Amazon's return system is so user-friendly.



Update August 1st 2010



I was somewhat surprised to receive an email response from the Vice President of EatSmart Products within about 20 minutes of the posting the above. He assured me I must have received a lemon (his words), which apparently happens from time to time. He also went on to say, and I quote, "I was hoping to get you a replacement immediately under our warranty program. Its the least we can do after putting a defective product in your hands."



I was duly impressed and told him so in my responding email. However, to date I have not received a replacement, nor do I now expect/want one to arrive. Having re-read other reviews of this and other EatSmart models, I believe this model is, in fact, a lemon. Other models seem to be consistently accurate, whereas, it appears, this particular model is not.



I am now looking elsewhere for a consistent and accurate scale.



Further update August 4th 2010



Today I received an unexpected package via FedEx. I had duly returned my 'lemon' and received a refund. I thought that was the end of the story. Not so! A new scale from EatSmart Products, with a letter from the Vice President, apologizing for the lemon and enclosing a new scale, which, he informed me, has been thoroughly tested for accuracy.



This accuracy I can confirm. Both my husband and I tested, and re-tested, and there was never a variation. I even tested it with one of my cats - spot on each time.



EatSmart clearly stand by their products, recognise there are ocassional flaws, and quickly correct the situation. I am a very impressed and happy customer. Obviously a company which values their name and reputation, and rightly so.

I have anxiously awaited the release of this scale for some time and now that I finally have it I am even happier than I thought I could be. Everybody in my family is big. I am 6'4", 375 pounds, so the need for a scale that could handle my weight was actually relatively tough to find. After talking to the folks at EatSmart, they convinced me to hold out for this one and I am glad I did.



The platform itself is the biggest individual selling point for me. Its probably a good five inches wider than the last scale I had. It gives me piece of mind that I am being properly weighed and I don't have to worry about turning an ankle or worse because my feet are hanging off. The 440 lb capacity was also a must for me, and so far I have found it very accurate. It was within .2 lbs of the scale in my gym, so I am finally confident that I am loosing some weight. The backlit display is nice, but frankly unless you live in a cave I don't think you need it as the display is so big to start with.



The fact that this company also seems to stand behind their products is big for me. At 350+ lbs I have gone through a few scales over the years, and after talking with the owners at Eatsmart I would not hesitate to buy from them again. Probably the best purchase of my young Amazon career.

This is by far the best scale I have ever owned. I love the oversized platform, the clean look of it and that it only requires two batteries. You get the same weight no matter how many times you step on and off right in a row. I did this with every family member in my home to be sure it was accurate. It was right on every time. The prompt delivery by the company was a big plus.

I received an email asking to review this product, and after a few weeks of owning the product I am able to give my humble opinion on such a wonderful product.



I would like to say that Eatsmart is an Awesome company, I had sent them an email asking when the product would be out and within the same day I got a reply with the release date. Now the cool thing was when the product became available I actually got an update email from Eatsmart informing that the product was available and the included a link directly to the Amazon.com page. To me that is a plus in ensuring customer assistance and satisfaction. Product arrive a day earlier then expected - niiiiice.



Finally about the product:



1.Awesome scale - is within a .2 margin of those really expensive scales as well as most of the scales I have used at clinics and fitness centers. (Weighs up to 400lbs)



2. The large platform (length & width) of the scale is great especially being a tall person, it allows for you to stand on the scale more naturally then regular everyday scales where you may need to adjust your footing a bit when getting onto the scale. (15 inches wide)



3. The large LCD display is another plus to the scale allowing you to get a readout whether lights are on or off in the room. Display lights - reading stays up for a few seconds after stepping off to ensure that you are able to your weight (4.25 inch LCD display)



4. Very low profile, sleek and sexy design. The tempered glass may at first give way for concern but after my friends and I have have weighed ourselves with weights ranging from 200 - 365lbs I can assure you this scale will hold up. Using regular (AAA) batteries is another plus takes from one having to search for a inferior lithium watch battery.



5. Quality x Value x cost - Can't be beat (In my opinion - but i did my fair share of scouring the internet looking, and researching in the end I kept coming back to Eatsmart and there fine line of products)

Click here for more information I bought this precision scale and calibration weight set specifically so that I could tell whether a clear round brilliant cut gemstone that I have was a real diamond or a synthetic diamond. I measured the diameter and depth of the stone with a caliper and then used a mathematical formula to determine what the gem SHOULD weigh if it were a diamond perfectly cut, which was a little over 1.97 carats. Then I used the scale to weigh the stone. It weighed 3.4 carats, meaning that it's cubic zirconia, which has a specific gravity much higher than that of a diamond.

Oh well, at least I know for sure, instead of having to trust a jeweler to tell me the truth about it.



By the way, this scale is quite small and light, can use several different units of measure, and arrived with batteries installed and ready for the calibration to be tested and the scale to be used.

I collect tobacco pipes and blend pipe tobacco for my own use, and I needed a small digital scale for measuring out the differant tobacco's. I originally bought the 100 gram scale but realized that I should have purchased the 600 gram scale for weighing larger amounts.I knew it was worth the money so I purchased the 600 gram scale too.They also work great for weighing my small packages and envelopes that I mail,now I can figure my postage before going to the post office. They are both very easy to use and I'm very satisfied with the quality of both of these scales.I recommend these two scales to anyone needing a small scale. And for the price,I am glad that I bought both of them. Good Luck

DBRoth provides the one piece chrome calibration weight as pictured, in a plastic carrying case. I saw in reviews of other vendors that the 100g weight provided was inferior and in one case, missing a screw-on handle (!). The scale is very nice for a variety of uses where precision is required, and the sensitivity to measure grains at this price is an outstanding value. Readout is bright and and calibration is pass/fail, a nice feature imo.

First, although the item arrived within the estimated period (barely), it was one of the slowest deliveries I've ever had on an Amazon purchase.



Then, as others here have written, there was no calibration weight included. No space for it in the package, no separate package, no indication that it should have been included. When contacted, Amazon said it could not rectify this by sending me the weight; the seller had apparently changed its policy without changing its listing.



Last, the batteries were already set in the active battery compartment without a separator between them and the contacts, and thus they were DOA.



All around one of the worst purchasing experiences I've had with Amazon, but it's all on the store that listed these scales, Potential Dynamix. I returned the item, got a refund approved, ordered a Polder scale directly from Amazon and received it within three business days. My recommendation: avoid Potential Dynamix and its false advertising.

I am disappointed because this scale combo has been misrepresented. It states a 100 gram calibration weight is included and it wasn't. I can't wait a month for the turnaround of a return and refund, so I guess I get to eat it since they won't just send the calibration weight to me that THEY DID NOT INCLUDE. Give me what I paid for!!!!!

Well this happens to be my first pocket scale, and it is GREAT!



It has a sleek and compact design, it's made of black plastic and has a bright blue LED.

It is very accurate AT least to .1 (I only had other .1 scales to compare it too), but be careful it is QUITE fragile. After less than a month of owning, and I'll be honest, a fair amount of abuse the weight is off and calibration will not fix it. If you don't plan on constantly dropping this thing, then that shouldn't be a concern.



It's VERY NICE for weighing your "stuff", just be sure to get a tray for weighing, the warranty will NOT ACCEPT the scale if it has foreign residues.



Overall, an awesome value, I'm off to buy a replacement for the one I broke. AMW scales are the best!

I bought this to doublecheck a more expensive jewelry/gem scale

and was impressed with its accuracy and ease of use. Whenever

using a scale for small items, you should have a calbration weight

on hand --- this was right-on.

Occasionally it will read a thousandth of a gram low or high, but otherwise performs perfectly. Yes, you must keep air currents out off of the scale and item being weighed for 0.01 gram accuracy. Also, the scale must be placed on a very stable platform. The heavier the better. Even minute vibration of the unit will affect readings, sometimes significantly. With no way of testing the 100 gram weight itself for accuracy, I'll just comment that the chrome on it is crude. The scale itself is better made and nicer appearing than I expected from the photos. Click here for more information I needed a scale that could measure quantities less than 10mg and did not want to buy a $1500 piece of lab equipment. If you are careful and consistent with your measuring techniques, this scale is repeatable to within a few milligrams - often to its finest resolution of 0.001g. These are essential for this performance: 1) let the scale stabilize on a hard, flat and level surface. 2) Make sure the sample tray is properly seated inside the circular detent of the scale's metal measuring platform. If you're not careful, the sample tray (as provided) can touch the body of the scale, grossly throwing off the measurement. I glued a small piece of metal to the bottom of the sample tray raising it higher for more clearance. I'll often tap the table that the scale is on to help everything settle. 3) calibrate as described in the manual. 4) place and remove samples consistently and carefully - don't drop them. Even the slightest impact can throw off the measurement. 5) wait for ten seconds or so for the sample to settle. 6) for minuscule samples, use the ten gram weight in addition to the sample to put the scale in the middle of its operating range. With a little care, one will get closer to the performance of a lab-grade milligram scale than anything else for this price. Nice scale.

I was hesitant to buy this given the review indicating that there may be a problem with the power supply to this scale. However, I was hoping that the other reviewer's case may have been isolated given the vast number of scales that AWS offered.



I've been using mine for about two weeks, making sure to turn it on and weigh the calibration weight at least once a day to check a) the power to the scale, and b) the accuracy of the scale over a period of time checking for consistency.



I can say that mine doesn't have an issue with eating away at the batteries and the scale is always within a 3mg error range of the 10g weight (usually less). I would say given the cost, that it is an extremely accurate and affordable scale.

I'm amazed that you get a balance which can display to the nearest milligram for the price that I would expect to pay just for the two calibration weights, which are included. Unless you've had a course in analytical chemistry or work in a lab where precision weighings are routine, here are a few tips. Do keep in mind that it is a precision instrument - use a light touch adding weight to the pan, always use the tweezers -- do not touch the pan or weights with your bare fingers. Keep the balance in a clean environment away from fumes, and only use it on a solid vibration free surface. For precise weightings to the nearest milligram, don't lean on the table, which must be solid, level, and vibration free. This balance is a little gem and an incredible bargain.

I bought this sale for measuring spices for cooking. My kitchen scale had a 2 g resolution, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt is 1.5 g, so it was inadequate. The photos of this product are misleading, the scale is tiny! About half the size it looks in the pictures. I added a picture of the scale with a dime and a ruler to give a better idea of its size.



The construction of this scale leaves a bit to be desired. The aluminum plate that covers the area around the sensor is attached with double sided foam tape, and was slightly warped, so it had sprung away from the tape to the point where it would make contact with the tray, throwing off measurements. Once I got the aluminum plate flat and stuck to the tape, I found that the measuring trays bottom does not quite match the dimple in the sensor, so it does not sit solidly on the sensor.



This scale is less than ideal for my purpose. The measuring tray is only 1.3" in diameter, much too small to catch all of the pepper from a pepper mill, and there is a gap between the sensor and the aluminum plate that would allow crud to fall inside the unit. The ideal scale would have a measuring plate that covered the entire top surface, and an overhanging lip so that spills would land on the table, and not inside the scale. I think that I can make an alternate tray using a sheet of plastic and a toothpaste tube cap that will allow me to use this scale for my intended purpose.

This product gets 4 stars because it does what it is intended to do and is cheap, it looses one star because of sloppy construction.

The pan for the scale, which is essential to using it, did not have a deep enough indent, thus the side of the pan hit the edge, causing inaccurate weighing. if the load was slightly off center, the weight would be low. More so, I tried to contact the manufacturer and left a message asking them to tell me which calibration weight they recommend before I buy the scale. They never bothered to call me back. For this I give the manufacturer a rusty 1 star. How you treat customers is almost as important as the quality of your product.

For the way the scale functions I give it 4 stars- it seems to work very well for the weights that it is designed to measure - (down to .1 g or 100mg). To Amazon, who tried to fix my problem, I give 5 shining stars! but I'm still waiting to see the info changed here, so that no more people buy the wrong calibration weight like I did, despite all my efforts to find out which one was required! So get the 500g calibration weight if you think you will need one for this scale.

I was looking for a mini portable digital scale to measure food and ingredients for cooking and eating. I searched online and saw this scale as the best one out of all that I had researched. Best for the following: best price, cute, compact, portable, has carrying case offering protection, weighs items up to 1000 g, could weigh in oz, g, and something else.



I contacted the seller and he replied exponentially fast and he answered all of my questions! (Other sellers I had contacted did not reply sadly.) And the product arrived quickly as well to Bellingham (they don't ship to Canada).



I'm loving my new scale ... it's proving to be very handy. And oh, it came calibrated! I tested it with an American nickel and it showed up as 5 g!

The scale is fine as are the other American Weigh pocket scales. They are good products, accurate and reliable. I also have the 650g unit which I really like. Just pick the one that suits your needs re: size, weight capacity and resolution (.1 or .01g). This one is a little biggger than some but it has two trays and a leatherette case. 4 Stars because the unit and outer tray was a bit scratched / marred and not really pristine. I never calibrated them as they are very close to my calibration weights and each other and I surely do not need precision more than .1g per 100g. Oh - by the way, I heard a rattle inside and eventually took it apart. Couldn't find the problem but after re-assembling and studying it more carefully I discovered it was the push buttons themselves on the blade. No problem though.

I bought this primarily for weighing model train rolling stock (cars) and locomotives. It's reliable - and phenomenal.



The shell it comes in fits snugly over the scale, so I just use my smallest precision screwdriver to nudge up the lid and open it - a tiny inconvenience. Eventual it may loosen, but it doesn't really matter.



The scale weighs in .xx oz or .xx g, the TARE features works great, and it times out quickly to save battery life. When you fold out the arm (in picture) with the buttons, a foot on the bottom of the arm keeps it nice and level. It came in a vinyl/faux-leatherette sleeve that protects it nicely. I can weight the weights I'm going to add to a car (e.g., spare nuts or other metal) and get the weight precisely to NMRA standards. Our derailments (which are frustrating) dropped like a stone after bulking up all our rolling stock to NMRA stds. 1000 g max, but I'll not come near that with my application (HO scale).



I couldn't find a product anything near this one in quality and reliability in any brick-and-mortar store (kitchen center, home center, cook shop, discount, department, etc.). A great value; highly recommended.

Click here for more information The scale before my purchase of this product was a heavy, bulky glass scale. Sure it looked nice, but due to small bathroom space, I couldn't leave it in one spot and still be able to shut the door. The old scale had rounded edges throughout, so I couldn't even sit it up on end to get it out of the way without risk of it toppling over. When the old one started giving me 4 different readings with each tap of the scale within one minute, I knew it was time for a change.



After looking at several diferent scales, I opted for the EatSmart Precision Premium Digital scale. There is another EatSmart scale on the market which got favorable reviews, but this one was newer and happened to be on sale and therefore cheaper. I felt a little pang of resistance because there was only 1 review at the time of my purchase, and (if you are reading this know you know what I mean) I rely on reviews in making purchases over the internet.



My purchase arrived within a week of order (I did not use expedited shipping). I took it out of the package and the thing that struck me first was how lightweight it was. I installed the four included batteries and away I went weighing everything in sight to see if I could get consistent readings. First up was my four year old daughter. She stepped on, stepped off, and stepped on again. Same weight! Next was my husband, who reluctantly performed the same task. Same weight both times!!



Next it was my turn. I, of course, was not about to weigh-in "group style." So I ran the scale up to my bathroom. I stepped on, stepped off, and stepped on again. Uh-oh. Different weight. BUT, I stepped on again and got the same weight I got the second time around. I did that three or four more times and got the same weight again and again. Afterwards, I went downstairs and read the owner's manual for the scale.



THIS IS IMPORTANT: IF YOU MOVE THE SCALE (AND I MEAN EVEN AN INCH OR SO), YOU NEED TO TAP IT ON AND LET IT TURN ITSELF OFF. THIS PROCESS IS WHAT MAKES THE SCALE ACCURATE. IF YOU MOVE IT AND IMMEDIATELY WEIGH YOURSELF, YOU WILL GET A DIFFERENT WEIGHT BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND READINGS.



The LCD screen is bright and super-easy to read. Readings appear to be accurate . . . I correlated them with an archaic dial scale I have where you can roll the dial to zero the scale. One of the surprising finds for me about this scale is that it is so slim in height that my doors can breeze right over the top without coming in contact with it. That means in my ultra-cramped quarters I don't have to constantly reposition it. Awesome!!



I highly recommend this product. Go ahead . . . buy it. You know you want to : )

Everything is right about this scale except the following:



1) The product description should make it clear that this scale cannot be used on carpet and should be mentioned in the bulletpoint list.



The scale has strain-gauge sensors in each of its four feet, thus if they are on an uneven surface the scale will output multiple changing weights. i.e. it becomes an unstable system. This is even true for very low pile carpet of apartments, almost entirely flat though enough give to render the scale useless without a solid base. So, I cut a piece of Masonite approximately 11" square and put it underneath and it works well-enough to stabilize the scale. A 12" square would work better.



The product description should clearly indicate the need for hard floors while also providing instructions on using the scale on low-pile carpeted surfaces via an additional base which could either be sold with the scale or made at home. It is then mainly an issue of knowing in advance that hard flooring is needed, and those using the scale on low-pile carpeting will need an additional base. Providing customers with this information resolves the issue prior to purchase.



2) A previous anomaly has since been effectively addressed by the company. The company president called to discuss the issue. Not only did they acknowledge it existed, they already had a fix on the way and shipped out a replacement unit.



Because of this admirable customer service I have changed my earlier review from 4 stars to 5 stars - this scale and the company that stands behind their products deserves it.



It is both an excellent scale and value. It is also aesthetically pleasing. My first and remaining impression: I love it. And I enjoy interacting with it everyday.

I have had three other bathroom scales before. All of them measured with an error up to 1 lb per weighting. I had to hit them and step at least three times and average the result to get accurate reading. Makes you want to hit them harder every time.



But this scale is a blessing.



Here are my pros:

- Fine precision, measures right every time

- Big back-lit screen

- No need to hit it, just step on it

- Has a switch for pounds and kilograms - this was very important for me and it was not written clearly on the product description

- Looks nice, feels stable and well built

- Price. Normally you would suspect to pay a premium for the best product. But here you receive it for the normal price of other similar not so good products



Cons:

- My 2 year old likes it very much and weighs herself a lot for fun. Not a con actually :)



Conclusion:

Click here for more information First, this little guy requires a 100g or 200g calibration weight - if you want to calibrate it. So don't buy a 50g like I did. ;) Oops. Now you know the competence of this operator/reviewer.



Second, the patriotic side of me chose this over the competition because it's an "American Weigh Scales" product. "Keep jobs in America", thought I. "Don't import another piece of rubbish."



Well, it's not rubbish, but in big bold letters on the case: "MADE IN CHINA". Oops. So much for keeping jobs in America. That said, I have nothing against Chinese products, so groovy. Was just half-trying to do my patriotic duty.



I bought this because I'd like some precision in my scale - 1/100th of a gram scale for under $20!? Great! Well, yeah, but... If you REQUIRE precision, this one may not be the best bet (HUGE surprise, it's under $20.) Oh well. Even weighing the calibration weight leads to incorrect readings every time.



Put the weight on, calibrate, 100g. Take the weight off, 0g. "Perfect!"



Repeat experiment, no calibration. Put weight on, "100.03g". Take weight off, "0.02g". Oh. Hmph.



So, it's not brilliant, nor should it be for the price, but it's not terrible. I suppose it will do. =) But if you want to keep jobs in America, better to spend $70 for one that really works precisely well.

Overall, much as expected. Just hoped it'd worked a little better than it does. Definitely not terrible, I'd even venture good - considering the price!

The scale is really really good for the price. Some reviewers have commented about different readings for the same measurement, but keep in mind that the scale does have a margin of error, as all measurement devices do. If you are selling enriched uranium or precious gems I can see how this would be an issue, but then again you probably shouldn't be using a $15 scale anyway.



My only complaint is that its build quality is somewhat flimsy, but then again it is $15.



Great deal for the price.

I needed a small gram scale for a moisture test (weight gain of a test kit over time). After looking at several sources (kitchen supply mainly) I couldnt find anything less than $50. I decided that pinpoint accuracy wasnt needed for this test and bought this scale, just a reasonalbe differential between the beginning and ending weights.. The test kit was preweighed by the lab, and was 32.7 g. (they round down the intial weight to tenths). The weight on this scale: 32.75, identical for these purposes.

It's hard to beat this product for the price. I'd hoped to use it for metallic reloading, but repeatability on mine turned out to be +/- 0.2 grains. Reading the fine print in the documentation that came with the scale, this is in fact the published rating. I wish that bit of info was provided in the product's description. The 0.01 grams listed is about 0.15 grains. That accuracy is better than needed for checking for double loads but not precise enough to allow me to use it as my primary scale. The scale returns its measurement very quickly. If the circuitry didn't lock in a weight as quickly as it does, it might actually be able to measure more precisely.

This is an excellent little scale - I was really surprised how compact it is. I bought it for reloading and for weighing my kids' AWANA Grand Prix/BSA Pinewood Derby cars. After zeroing the scale, the 100g calibration weight weighed in at 100.05 grams. Calibration was very simple and intuitive, and resulted in a perfect, repeatable 100.00 reading. I weighed a piece of deprimed 308 Winchester brass on my sensitive RCBS 505 balance scale (157.2+ grains), then weighed it on the digital scale - they were within .2 grains (0.013 grams) of each other, and the digital scale alternatively measured 157.2 and 157.4. Seeing as the actual weight was really on the strong side of 157.2, I can understand the alternating readings.



The scale will weigh up to 200 grams (7.05 ounces, .44 pounds), which is perfect for a 5 ounce max Pinewood Derby car. It was one of the few reasonably priced scales that would measure to the 1/100th of a gram, and use has shown it to be very accurate. For my highly precise rifle reloading it's not *quite* accurate enough (+/- 0.15 grains) to measure powder (that's what the 0.1 grain RCBS scale is for), but for practice rounds it is plenty accurate. I'll be using it for sorting brass and bullets and checking for double loads.



Overall, this is an excellent little scale for a great price.

This little bugger is quite good.

Sadly, I can't dive too deep into this product due to its overall simplicity... It's a scale... It's made to weights things... It does its job well.





Its the overall size of a hand, give or take. The platform you weight things is 3" horizontal, 2 1/2" vertical.

On the back of the flip cover there is a release lever to remove said flip cover. Nifty, but not the smoothest thing ever(can be a bit of a fiddle to get it to work right).



The device comes in a leather case, which I do like.



The screen is - in fact - a touch screen, and has a nice blue back-light. I was worried about the touch screen at first(bad past experiences) but it works like you would want it to.



It has several modes for various weight types, but can only go up to about ~200g... unless I am doing something wrong.(why read the manual, anyway?)

The accuracy is as close as I could ask, sometimes it's a few 0.01g off on an object, but close enough for what you pay for it.

Click here for more information I bought this unit to weigh gold and silver coins and bullion. It's a very sturdy yet compact unit. It fits in a pocket or purse or any bag. It seems to be very well made and the scales are accurate.



When I first got the unit and turned it on, it didn't work. I discovered the batteries were loose. Actually, the batteries should be outside the unit when shipped.



In any case, while I've not owned them long, I'm very pleased with them. The price is exceptional and EZ Sales are just super to deal with.



I was a bit annoyed that the unit did not come with a calibration weight. Be sure and get the 500 gram weight for this model. You won't need it the first time you use the unit, but at some point, you will.



Highly recommended.



Update: After using the scales for checking coin weight for awhile now, I've noticed that it's not totally accurate. Even after calibration. A silver dollar should weigh 31.1 grams. I have them weigh from 31.1 to 31.5. But the troy ounce is always 1oz, as it should be.



There is a margin of error. So if you need extreme accuracy, you'll have to spend a lot more money. But if you want to be just quite close, this will do fine.

I ordered this scale to weigh small parts for RC cars and it has performed excellent. As others have mentioned you need to remove the batteries from the unit before using the scale because the batteries are shrink wrapped in plastic. For the price I didn't expect the build quality to be great so I wasn't shocked at the fairly cheap build quality. The plastic casing feels ok but the battery cover feels cheap and loose. The protective cover for the stainless steel weighing platform is not too bad though. The scale is small about 4" x 3" in size but the weighing platform is decently sized covering about 70% of that area.



In terms of ease of use and accuracy it's a great little scale with a nice sized backlit LCD with an auto shutoff to conserve battey power. To get accurate results you need to place it on a flat non-moving surface because this scale is VERY sensitive. I've found the scale to be very consistent by weighing the same objects many times and the results were always within +/- 0.1 grams for small items that are less than 30g. The scale comes ready to use and calibrated from the factory, however if you ever need to recalibrate this model you will need to use a 500g calibration weight, you cannot use smaller calibration weights because they will not calibrate correctly. Also keep in mind that environmental factors will affect the scale readings such as ambient temperature, strong drafts from ceiling fans and magnetic fields.



This is a precision instrument so should be adequately taken care of eg don't drop it, don't let it sit in direct sunlight, don't keep it in high humidity areas and also store the scale lying flat not vertical. All in all a great low cost and accurate pocket sized scale that is very easy to use.

The price was excellent. The scale works well, and I haven't noticed any of the inconsistencies noted by other reviewers.



The clamshell cover and stainless steel scale plate are excellent features, as is the 'indiglo-style' backlight to the display, which was an unexpected, though very welcome, surprise, and the batteries were included (also a nice surprise these days).



I, too, noticed that the batteries were crooked and the unit didn't work immediately when I opened the package, though this appears to be deliberate to keep the batteries from draining while in transit. Once they are unwrapped (mine were shrink-wrapped, and installed in the scale fully wrapped), the scale works fine.



All in all, it is very nice, quick and easy to use, and took precisely two days to get to me with standard shipping -- astoundingly fast service.



I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

The scale is constructed quite nicely, and the black casing with stainless steel weighing pad adds for a nice polished look. It comes with batteries (which I discarded because they were a nameless Chinese brand) but the thought of adding batteries free of charge is nice. In the battery compartment there is a place to store an extra set of batteries (which I do, it makes it feel weightier/higher quality). It's very slim and is easily stored. Instructions are printed on the inside of the lid which is nice. Another reviewer said not to calibrate it, but I purchased a 500 gram calibrating weight and did it just to see if it would work okay and it did. The scale said 500.6 grams before I calibrated it, so it was fairly accurate to begin with and most likely won't require calibration for a while. Good looks, accurate and repeatable results, excellent price, what more could you want in a 600 gram scale?

When it was working it was flaky. It would weigh the exact same thing out differently . (Margin for error was about .2 of a gram for every 5 grams on the scale.) After just a few uses, It said the batteries were dead. (came with some cheap generic chinese batteries) When I opened up the compartment, one of said batteries had been leaking battery acid all over the inside of the scale.
