Click here for more information What kind of flashlight can you get at this price point? A really good one, that's what kind. This seemed to be promising too much for the dollar amount, but I gave it a try and I'm glad I did.



Firstly, though, about that 180 lumen rating -- she's bright, but 180 seems a little, um, optimistic.... My very informal and very unscientific assessment would be around 120 or so, which is still pretty darn bright. Throw is decent, and the beam is a good balance between spot and fill. Very useful.



The best part is the switching system. You switch between modes using just the pushbutton on/off click switch in the tailcap (as usual, a little pressure gives you momentary on, push in further to click it to constant on). Press once, and you've got high beam. Press twice within .4 seconds, you've got strobe. Press three times within .8 seconds and you cycle to low beam. I like the feel of the switch; there's quite a bit of travel before you hit the constant-on click. The strobe would certainly be disorienting to an attacker, and the bezel and tailcap have the mandatory crennelations (relief cuts) in case you want to, you know, strike somebody in the head or something. Hey, it is a TACTICAL light, right?



Check the dimensions: at 4.68 inches long, 0.90 inch at its largest diameter, and weighing less than 3 ounces with batteries (I'm going by Streamlight's data here, as I don't have a postal scale handy, but that feels about right), this is one small, lightweight flashlight. The head diameter is barely larger than the body, making it sleek and easy to draw from a pocket. The pocket clip seems pretty sturdy, and a nylon holster is included if you prefer that method of carry. Build quality is adequately rugged, and you've got a lifetime guarantee (excluding abuse and batteries).



Quibbles? Well, the anti-roll flats on the side of the head are mighty subtle, and not very effective on even a slight incline; thankfully the pocket clip stops a roll. The batteries rattle a bit in the body, which I can't stand, but wrapping a piece of adhesive tape around each battery will help to quiet that (not too much, you need to be able to get the batteries back out). And if you like a lanyard, you'll have to improvise, as there's no loop for attaching one. Other than that, I can't find anything to gripe about. There's a lot to like here, especially the switching system. It's so light and slim that I'm not even aware of it clipped in my left rear pocket. Great value, my friends. I'm gonna order a couple more!

I have the Surfire Backup to compare this to, and for price buy the Streamlight 88031. If you have to have a heavier feel with a blinding white light get the Surefire Backup (I use it in my job).

Cons with the 88031 as others have said, the strobe should be the third press to the tailcap not the second, but it sure does mess with someone coming at you. I am in the Marines and we tried this out as a warning or to distract someone coming at you. All those we tested the strobe on in the dark hated the disorienting flash. That being said I use the plain bright white light or the dim light much more than a strobe.

Bottom line I'm buying another to put in the car to use a a safety and back up light.

Buy it for work and play. Easy to carry and lots of light.

With their recent price drops for LED lights and the addition of the C4 LED, I ordered a number of Streamlights to do my own comparison. This and the Streamlight Nightfighter are my favorites so far. For comparison, I ordered the below Streamlights-they're listed in order of decreasing PERCEIVED light:



Streamlight 88005 Night Fighter NF, C4 LED Tactical Flashlight, Black (2 CR123) 120 lumens

Designed (with removable doughnut) for use with sidearms/2-handed hold-very comfortable grip.

Seems to be brighter than the higher rated PT-2L, but probably because it has a larger reflector.

Simpler switch design (to eliminate mistakes under stress)-no strobe/various outputs-just push for momentary on-twist the end cap for constant on.



PT-2L (2 CR123) 180/10 lumens

Darn close in output to the Nightfighter, but is slimmer since the head is the size of the body.

For those with larger hands or slight carpal tunnel, the Nightfighter may be more comfortable while holding with a fist grip?



PT-2AA (2 AA) 120/14 lumens

The AA version of the PT-2L if you prefer AA over CR123 batteries, but it's not quite as bright.



Streamlight JR (2 AA) 55 lumens

'Bout the size of a mini Maglite, but an inch? longer-not bad, but I might have preferred it be an inch shorter?



The below are a step below in output and do not have the newer C4 LED.

They're not bad for pocket lights, but they're not really for serious work.

Streamlight Microstream (1 AAA) 20 lumens



I have a 2 D-Cell Maglite that I installed the Maglite LED bulb in-the PT-2L puts it to shame!

The LED drop-in for the Maglite was a big improvement, but the beam is tightly focused-if you twist the focusing head, you get more light on the edges, but you have a big dark spot in the middle. The PT-2L puts out more center light than the Maglite with LED (but it's pretty close), but the PT-2L has much better light at the edges-it tends to light up a much bigger area.



I have a few Nightfighters for use with a 2-handed hold of firearms, but ordered some more of the PT-2L to use a glove box lights in all my vehicles. Tough call between it and the Nightfighter, but since I got the PT-2L for around 2/3 (or less) the price of the Nightfighter, and they're going to be in vehicle glove boxes, I opted for more PT-2L models.



This would make a great SERIOUS light for women (or a larger pocket light)-it takes up very little space, but is blindingly bright!

EDIT: I've started wearing one of these on my belt at all times, using the included nylon pouch. As stated in my review, the Nightfighter may be slightly brighter, but the PT-2L is smaller/slimmer and in its pouch, it is about the same length as my cell phone belt case.

I found someone with a 3 D-cell LED Maglite for comparison-I wondered if the LED Maglites worked better than mine with the drop-in LED (by Maglite). It appears they made no changes to the reflector/focusing on the LED models vs. my upgraded one-the 3 D-cell LED Maglite seems identical to my 2 D-cell upgraded one for both light output and rendering the focusing head pretty much useless. Maglite really needs to work on their reflector with the LEDs! They throw a decent, but extremely tight beam-if you try to broaden the light with the focusing ring, you get a black hole in the middle with very little light at the edges-the PT-2L puts both of 'em to shame. - Flashlight - Led Flashlight - Strobe - Tactical

From my room window was able to shine the light on a street sign about 140-150 ft away at night. Amazing for night-time airsoft games or something along those lines

This is a good quality light, well built, and it throws a good beam. Mounts securely and the pressure switch works well. The twist on switch is a little disappointing but it works. The price was very reasonable. The only big negative is that it uses unusual camera batteries. I try to standardize on AA and AAA batteries and now I need to keep 123A camera batteries. Other than that this is a great light for the money.

so i bought this mainly because of the price.. it is an alright light,the actual lght is ok, it could be better. (lights about 15 or so ft in front you), has a nice mount for Picatinny rail. low profile stays close to your rifle and properly secures with two screws,got positive points for that. uses the same batteries as my surefire, which is cool because i have extra ones. comes with a push button and a pressure switch(which was the reason for buying)the only thing that i had a proble was that i boutgh it for the UAG Tactical 5 Position Folding Ergonomic Grip http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040V8DX6 , which has the are for the pressure switch inserts but did not fit..so i had to put a little electrical tape around the grip to secure the pressure switch. overall its ok. good if on a budget but if your willing to spend some coin i would suggest buying a better one.

I bought this a long time ago I would have rather a AAA or AA and handheld, but this is very good otherwise.

Only rates a 95 lumens batteries seem to last a while I think utg says 3hrs use.

only uses cr123a lithium not sure if it will take a liion that would be spendy but nice in the long run.

intended use is on a mid to large carbine or rifle airsoft paintball or the real mckoy.

is shock resistant and rather beefy as is common with utg they make stuff that lasts.

I may do a video review later but as it stands a good light good price cr123a lights are an investment if you use it expect to buy 6-10 a year at $3-$6 a battery.

the light looks good feels good and is easy to put the pressure switch on. the light was brighter than i expected for a cheap light it mounted on my ak easy and locked on tight. the first time the light was in need was in a fairly dark room the light worked just as it should puting out a bright beam centered with the barrel but with a full auto blast of prob. about 4 rounds the light went out, lucky i was with a squad clearing a room and the others also had lights. since the ak is my backup that has a side folder and short barrel i ideally use this for CQC. once back to the FOB i dissassembled the light checking for the prob. the buld showed good but after testing with another that was the problem i could get another bulb from leapers for 1.95 but if this happens every time i use it then i might as well quit depending my life on a cheapo an fork out the money for a surefire or something like it. all in all if you use this light with airsoft or small caliber cartridges its great but rapid fire large cal. guns not so much

This tactical flashlight is a very good buy for the price. It does the job and cost less than the other tactical flashlights out there, so if you're looking for a budget, this flashlight is probably one that you might want to look up. I don't like the fact that this gun isn't led, but its the best bang for the buck, so I'm not going to complain. I would recommend this to anyone who is playing an airsoft game especially for the cqb bcuz this accessory is a great addition.

Click here for more information It's hard to believe what a bright light this little thing puts out while running on 2 AA batteries. The case is durable metal, and the thing feels more solid than a maglight. If anything, my main criticism is that the thing is overbuilt. It's like a Swiss watch of flashlights- craftsmanship taken to an almost absurd degree.

I run with this flashlight. It is very bright at 100 lumens and has a nice wrist strap. It only has a 2 hour run time but uses cheaper AA batteries. I would buy another if the price dropped down to the price I paid in October...31.70.

Update: Bought a 2nd one for the wife to use. After nearly a year...zero complaints...still works great.

I wished it was cheaper but I had to try it out and I don't regret it. I have gone ahead and given away all my old bulb flashlights at this point and strictly only use LED flashlights. Now this thing is very solid. I compared it to my older bulb flashlights that took up to 4 D batteries and it is much brighter. I compared it to my 32 LED smith and wesson and it is way brighter than that one as well. Of course that one is meant for much longer battery life as well as red and blue. Yes I would recommend this flashlight to everyone and plan on buying more as gifts as soon as they go on sale. It has a very strong belt clip as well. If you're looking for something like this don't wait for a few buck price drop. Get your first one and then wait.

At ~$45, this strikes me as a frugal (not cheap) alternative to the premium brand(s). I let a tactically trained friend, who owns numerous Surefires, try it out, and he was very impressed. In fact, the performance of this LED convinced him that such a "bulb" can match the effectiveness of the best incandescents now. He'd been holding out until he could compare first-hand. The body is very solid; The nylon holster with belt strap & spare battery pouch is functional; The lanyard is a bonus, though a tad thin for my preference. At this point, I only have two "complaints." #1) The rear battery cap/switch is not as rigid as I think it should be. When screwed all the way in, the lamp is on continuously, which is no problem/typical. However, when backed off enough to turn it off and enable momentary mode, the LED will illuminate if you gently push/flex the endcap to the side. Don't interpret that it's flimsy -- It's not. And, this is probably not a big issue, but has the potential to cause accidental actuation if pressure is applied to the side of the cap while carrying it on a belt, in a pocket, or in a (back)pack. In turn, this could drain the batteries, since this LED is rated to do so in approx. 2 hours with quality alkalines (not confirmed by me yet). #2) It's made in China. Unfortunately, like so many other companies, S&W has sourced some of their products overseas. This certainly helps them compete and get their foot in this market, and the quality seems to be top-notch, so this issue is really just a disappointment for me, and FYI to you, as I didn't know this before it showed up on my doorstep.

I own other Tacical Flashlights having paid much more for the others. The Smith and Wesson preforms as well as the others I own, at half the cost. A plus is this light runs on AA batteries, not 123A batteries (more costly). You can use rechargeble batteries in this light, saving even more cost. Also has a much greater running time. Love it!

I bought this light for work to replace a SureFire G2, and this one puts it to shame. I am using it for extremely dark, low reflectivity areas such as inside a 60ft high boiler with dark, rusty walls and tubes. The Maglight I had at first didn't even illuminate the ceiling. I then got a SureFire G2, but the batteries were always running out (at $2 per battery). I then got this light, and just love it. The battery life really is what they advertise. I recommend this light all the time. Very well built and great optics. In case you're wondering, it is a spot-type of projection, not a wide general-lighting type of light.

Update! I now own 4 of them, all work great even after being put through hell for such a long time!

2 AA batteries. Brightest light I have found that does not need to be recharged. They say it has a two hour continuous run time, it will last for over a month with moderate use. It has a momentary button on the tail cap which allows you to use it regarldess of hand position, unlike others that the button is recessed, or turn the cap all the way in to use it in constant mode. It will fit into a mini mag light leather hoslter if you are interested in carrying it this way you just get the holster wet, put the light into the hoslter and let it dry. Also I have dropped it many times at work and it is still working fine. If you are looking for blinding light you have found it, a tactical flashlight like this one would normaly cost easily 100$

This is an amazingly bright lamp. The optics are fantastic for such a small unit.



The *only* issues I have are:



1: You can't use it in "candle mode" Not really a big issue, but it does come in handy once in a while.



2: Can't focus the beam. Again, not a huge issue, but sometimes focusing would be helpful.



3: Since the on/off is the base of the torch, you either screw it in tight or press on the base with your thumb, if you put it into the holster, be careful, pressure from the flap cover can activate the lamp and you'll not see it until it's too late.



In the dark, I was illuminating the back yard to the tree line from over 30 meters away. My 3 D-Cell mag LED was able to do this as well. But it is nearly 300% larger. - Flashlight - Led Mini Flashlight - Tactical - Bright

2009 Amazon Frustration-fre - flashlight, smith and wesson

Click here for more information I love the flashlight. It's really bright and I'm getting good battery life. So far I haven't had too much trouble getting the white light to come on when I push the button for white light, but the red light button doesn't work most of the time (you can see in the photo that there are two buttons, the one closest to the light is the white light button and the one under that is for the red light). The flash light is about the size of my small mag lights, in length, but considerably wider. It feels good and solid. I'd love the flashlight if the switches weren't so difficult to use. I push them in, but nothing happens, no light. I have to keep pushing until I get it just exactly right, which is fine when I'm not panicked or in a hurry.

Update:

WOW, when the manufacture learned about the problems I've been having with the switches on this (otherwise) beautiful flashlight, they told me; the LED lights are warranted for life, as are the switches. They offered to send me a brand new flashlight, no charge, no questions. Now talk about service!!!

When a company is willing to go to such lengths to stand behind their product, then I say it's money well spent. How can you go wrong?



I've also read some reviews that the light isn't very bright. I think this flash light is quite bright, though not as bright as some. This is a lot more comfortable to carry around and hold than most of my other flashlights, because it is more solid feeling and has the tectured grip. The case comes with a place to store an extra set of batteries, which I've not seen on any other flashlight. A nice feature, especially if you want to carry this in a car or emergancy kit.



I GOT MY NEW FLASH LIGHT!!! The switches work perfectly.

There are flashlights and then there are FLASHLIGHTS. The S&W Galaxy is a real must have!Powered by 3 AAA Batteries it beams a bright white light out that can be seen for hundrets of yards and the red light function is perfect at night. The price is hardly beatable, unless someone wants to spend 300 bucks for a flashlight (vortex luxeon).

I hve been a fan of Mag Lights for years, which cost the same as this one but I had to alter my opinion. After I bought one for myself and tested it I gave one to my wife, have one at work and tell everybody who's looking for a Flashlight about this one.

If Amazon would allow more than five stars to give, I would always give the max!

I bought this to replace the 2 D Cell mag light flashlight that I keep bedside. This light is nice and bright, plus much more compact than my old mag light. The red lights are much brighter than I expected, and you can easily navigate your house or a hiking trail with the red lights. LED flashlights are well worth the extra money, and this one is a good one.

I've owned this product since 01/25/09. So for basically a month I've been kicking it around and comparing it to my others. Of course, I cannot yet speak to its longevity.



I have a few flashlights, including Maglite incandescent and LED models of various sizes, Streamlight 68244, 66118 Stylus Pro, and Nano, Gerber 22-80012 Infinity, Nitecore Defender Infinity, Fenix LD20 Q5, TK20, and E01, Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp, as well as a couple of kinetics.



That said, I'm always fishing around for the best overall "bang for the buck" for my purposes. I have five basic areas of need when it comes to flashlights:



1) In the house for power outages, attic crawls, and so on.

2) In the backyard with my telescope.

3) In the computer case adding/replacing/cleaning components.

4) On the trail for hiking/camping.

5) In the car.



Of course, each of these areas has a particular set of requirements. When stargazing, I want a red LED to help me maintain night vision. On the trail I'm more concerned about size/weight and beam throw. In the computer...well, nothing really beats a headlamp for this task.



The Smith & Wesson Galaxy 13 is a nice combo light, in that it brings to the table both a capable batch of ten white LEDs for short distances and three red LEDs for night vision. These two sets are wired to their own switches and tactile response is good. There's no momentary on when the switch is disengaged, but you can temporarily shut the light off while the switch is on. There's also a lock out feature to prevent the light from switching on accidentally. You need only spin the end cap counter-clockwise a bit and both switches are "locked". The casing is metal, with a nice knurled grip and good sizing.



This light seems fairly tough, similar in weight and feel to a comparably sized Mag. But admittedly, I've not really abused it yet. The rubber rings and overall tight fit of the components leads me to believe it would do alright if dropped in the water. The sheath is well designed, with a pouch for 3 backup AAA batteries and a velcro strap that fits belts, MOLLE webbing, etc...



For indoor use, it performs well. The light is somewhat diffuse due to the design constraint of multiple LEDs spread across a flat base reflector. There's no way to focus the beam. This is roughly the same as my older Streamlight 68244, but the Galaxy wins the match up on account of its more rugged casing. I also prefer it over my LED Maglites. I'd feel quite comfortable recommending the Galaxy to friends as a Maglite alternative. The three red LEDs are an added plus that work well for reading star charts or maps in the dark.



On the downside, the outdoor capabilities of this light are limited in my opinion. Due to the design, beam throw is minimal. If you want to spot something particular at a distance, good luck.



There are certainly better lights out there, such as those produced by Nitecore and Fenix. These will cost you between $50 and $100, depending on options and lumens ratings. If I had to pick the best overall bang for the buck out of my current stable, it would be the Fenix LD20 without a doubt. That light is tough, has a small form factor, four brightness levels (from 9 to 180 lumens) and a strobe, nice beam profile and throw, 70+ hours runtime on the lowest setting (with 2 AA batteries), and it has a couple of handy accessories (a diffuser wand and a red filter). At about $60 it is not a cheap light. But even at that price, it rocks. There are models by Surefire, Olight, and so on that cost much, much more without delivering that much more in the way of features and quality.



All things considered, I'd still say that the Galaxy 13 is a good general purpose, relatively inexpensive light to have in the house. To sum up...



Pros:

+ Good performance for the price.

+ White and red LEDs.

+ Nice runtime for three AAA batteries.

+ Fairly rugged and yet compact.

+ Smart sheath design.



Cons:

- No lanyard loop. I've almost dropped it twice already. In the absence of a loop, at least give users a clip.

- Battery cartridge can delay changeouts.

- Loses effectiveness at longer distances/no ability to focus the beam.

- Only two options: on or off - basic intensity level controls would be nice. - Flashlight - Smith And Wesson - Led - Led Light

Click here for more information This really is a great flashlight for the money. It's every bit as bright as the D-Cell maglight I compared it to. The fit and finish of the parts that make up this flashlight are very good quality considering the price point. Good fine threading on the base and the shroud, a real polished aluminum reflector rather than crome plated plastic is a nice touch.

Several factors lead to the fifth star coming off.

First, and foremost, there is no "on-off" switch per say. There are two setups availible for this light, the temp button or the pressure switch. Neither will allow you to tap-on or tap-off like some of the higher priced units. Having to hold down the pressure switch can lead to some reliability issues in a tense situation, and not having the pressure switch can be cumbersome depending on weapon choice. You can always screw the back in all the way to get it to stay on, but that's not a very tactical nor very fast. (especially on a shotgun)

Second, the mounting hardware included with the light is just a couple of thousands of an inch too big. When you crank down the allen screw that tightens the grip on the light's barrel, it just doesn't get quite tight enough for some heavier applications like shotguns. If you'll be mounting this on an AR platform or something with light recoil, it shouldn't be a factor for you. But if you're getting this specifically for a high recoil weapon like a shotgun, prepare to be shopping for a new mounting bracket soon.

Lastly, attention to detail in final assembly is not what it should be. The lamp is mated to the reflector via very fine threads that can easily be cross-threaded and sure enough, they were cross-threaded right out of the box. This affects beam size, brightness, placement as well as the lights ability to handle recoil.

Be sure to field strip this light down to the bones and put it back together with great care. I added some brake grease to the threads to help with threading and water resistance and once the lamp and the reflector were mated correctly, the beam was perfectly focused and VERY bright.

Overall I absolutely love the light. It's a great deal for the money, I'll probably be buying a second one to carry aside from weapon mounting. There are just a few issues that cost it that last star.

This flashlight is extremely bright, rock solid design with no rattles or looseness. I did have to exchange the tactical slide on mount for a new one that actually fit and tightened around the light case (reason for not giving it 5 stars) But once that was fixed, it fits like a glove on my gun! LOVE IT!!! Amazing product for the inexpensive price!! Other $200-$300 lights i have tested aren't even this bright!

i put this on my 12ga shotgun. it works just fine. heavy, sturdy, bright, and comes with a strobe function. the strobe does have to be cycled through on "clicks" but its half the price of my other gun mounted light. i think its worth the money. the pressure switch is straight forward but replaces the flashlights backscrew giving you only the pressure switch to turn it on/off.

I purchased this light for my S&W M&P 15-22.The light is very bright and looks great. Mounting took less than five minutes and the pressure switch was an easy mount on the forend handle. Great buy for the money.

I spent years in manufacturing quality control. I can't find any reason to fault this in any way. it is very well made. the fine threads require some care and grease. Very bright. I can't figure what could make the competition worth 100 plus dollars more.

Bright enough to leave retina burn. Built solid. Handles recoil. Easily compares to other tac-lights costing 10 times as much.

I see some complaints with the tightness of the flashlight in the mount. A small piece of tin, cut from a soda can even, or a small strip of electrical tape, placed on the light, then slid into the holder, will rectify the slack. This is known as a shim.

This is a great product at an extremely reasonable price. Have used 2 now, on different builds, and had 0 issues. It's a steal.

Have only had this for a couple weeks but think the quality is top notch. I have fired rounds through my AR 15 with the light attached and all is well. Great quality for the $$$$, Cant see why anyone would pay $200+ for high end lights.

I am in Afghanistan and use this light for everything! The pressure switch is very useful! I have it mounted to my M16... The rail I had was a little big but I managed to fit it on by loosening the light mount all the way! Love this light and use it everyday! Very Bright! Very Heavy Duty! Love it!

Fits great on my gun and for the Price you can't beat it! Don't expect the save brightness you'd get out of a Tactical light that you'd play three times the price, but that's not what I was expecting.

Click here for more information I decided I wanted to stray away from those cr123 batteries & buy a small flashlight that used AA batteries or AAA batteries. Since I already have 3 Streamlight flashlights & 2 headlamps; Streamlight is know by me for dependability. This is a bright flashlight with a glass lens for its size & does not need those expensive cr123 batteries. If you go camping or whatever; you can get AA batteries in almost any store. I have seen when I had to watch how much I used the flashlights that used the cr123 batteries. The strobe on this flashlight would confuse anyone shined close up in their eyes. The 3rd mode would be great for reading in the dark. It even comes with a black velcro holster to wear with you that clips to your pants or on a belt. I might add a lanyard to mine. This Streamlight double AA flashlight is bright and reasonably priced compared to competitive models. I like that it is based on AA batteries which are easy to find at any store. It is made of aluminum and is reasonably rugged without taking the "tactical" thing to silly extremes. I expect it to work well on a daily basis for a long time. I own a couple of the Streamlight flashlights that use two AAA batteries and this one is several times as bright.



If you remove the clip the light will probably fit in many of the typical accessory pouches made for the Maglite Mini AA. It does have a wider diameter back end than the Maglite so you may not get it to fit on all holsters. I use a "NITE IZE Pock-Its" pouch now and this light only fits when the accessory clip is removed.



Only missing feature is a dedicated place to attach a lanyard. You could probably put the lanyard through the accessory clip but would risk it pulling free. There is a "strobe" function that turns on if you push the on button twice quickly. The protective lens over the LED and reflector seems to be glass and will resist scratches and yellowing better than the usual plastics. Enjoy.

This guy is twice as bright and considerably smaller than the streamlight it replaces. At 120 lumens it is just ridiculously bright. It has a focused white beam. I've ownwed many streamlights in the past inclusing the 4AA yellow ones and the 2AA "luxen jr" and this thing is just a beast! Get some quality rechargeable aa's (not store bought, go online for high-drain/fast charge units). This guy is regulated so its bright until the very end. No long, painful winddown. The ONLY gripe I have is the transition from high to strobe or low. High is default, double tap is strobe, and triple tap is low. Low is actually good enough to go running with in pitch dark once your eyes adjust. It takes a little practice to toggle settings...you have to give it a light tap followed by a full PUSH to get to strobe, and 2 light taps followed by a complete push to get to low. It is always "high" when turned back on. This is by far the best 2aa light Ive owned. It just wrecks the old halogens. Until youve seen it you wont believe it.

I got this for a birthday gift for my dad. He is a auto mechanic and he loves it for working under the hood. It is bright enough to light up under the hood outdoors in the sun. For the price you can't beat this product. It is durable and only needs 2 AA batteries. I highly recommend this product. Buy it. Now.

This flashlight is everything it was described as in the Amazon ad. I use its super bright strobe light feature to charge up my glow in the dark fishing lures to send down to the dark depths of the lakes I fish for lake trout and kokanee in the summer when they can only be found in deep dark water. Great product at a great price. I couldn't be happier with my purchase on Amazon.com!!

After reading these reviews I felt comfortable enough to make a purchase, and wow was I impressed. For being a single AA battery the little guy is BRIGHT! It took about 1 minute to look at the instructions and figure out how to switch between modes. I like the pouch it comes with, for the price this is a steal! Excellent product, would recommend this to anyone that needs a small tactical flash light. Will definitely by Streamlight products in the future.

So far I've purchased two of these flashlights. They work as advertised. The features that stand out from the rest is the light throw in a pitch black room from a 1 AA battery operated light. It's amazing how much light comes from one AA, which are pretty cheap to replace. It comes with a Velcro flapped holster that can sit on a belt or you can carry in the same pocket as a cell phone without worrying about scratches from it's aluminum build. Overall it's compact and powerful. If you are looking for something light and easy to carry daily get this light. I switched from a Surefire 6P Defender LED to this. I have yet to take it to the range to see how it withstands 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP recoil. I got rid of my Lithiumm battery flashlight,it was costing me to much to replace them.With AAA size battery it was inexpensive.Dorcy Flashlight is also durable,I drop it on my basement floor and no damage to it,especially the Cree light.Its reliable,small,AAA size battery cost less then a lithium battery.The Cree light (200 lumen) is ver bright.I got two,one for each car.I am planning of ordering a third one for me to carry,when I am taking a walk around the park,along with my sword cane.Thanks for a great product.

This is one incredible flashlight. The light output is really bright! I bought this flashlight for camping in July at Yosemite where it's pitch black at night. This is also good for blackouts at home or anywhere you need a one. I bought flashlights with less lumens at a higher price. Using AAA batteries is an A+ since it's readily available if it needs replacement. Turning it on is unusual... twisting the end cap all the way for constant light and loosen it a bit for intermittent lighting and pressing the end button. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommended.

the dorcy light is a good strong flashlight i do wish it had a regular push button switch for on off instead of just turning the end cap. also the run time could be longer than 3 hours ?? overall it is a good light.

Great feel, weight, etc. Quality made, not junk. Light is clean, perfect pinpoint and flood in one. Brightness? Don't turn in on in a dark car, even if you point it at the floor and are looking away... this bugger is bright! Battery life is excellent, no noticeable dimming throughout. I got this Dorcy light specifically looking for a tactical light. Everything about it is perfect. The size is just right - it's small. It fits very comfortably in my hand - I have medium sized hand. The head in the pic appears larger than it really is. The tactical switch works GREAT - pressing it on/off with the pad of your thumb creates NO NOISE from the switch - just what you expect and need from a tactical light. And, of course, you need bright light in the general area of focus and this thing puts out 10000 watts!! allowing me to see everything clearly in the line-of-sight and general area. BIG NOTE: The flashlight has no cut off in the charger... it states this in the directions... "Charge 3-5 hours but do not leave on the charger more than 6 hours" which may be great if you want to sit around and wait on it with an egg timer... but personally I like to set my light on the charger overnight and grab it when I wake up and get ready for work... There is no indication of fully charged either...



BIG NOTE 2: The lens is made out of a cheap feeling THIN piece of plastic and will likely melt from heat with any type of semi-extended use... my lens came all scratched up too...



First thing I noticed was that on the side of the flashlight it says "GUARDEDOG" and on the other "FLASHLIGHT"... I thought this was a "Guard Dog"... and does it really need to state that its a flashlight? I think we can figure it out... There is a compass in the tailcap which was about 45 degrees off... west was reading north...



Besides the cosmetics... If the head gets more than about 1/8 of a turn lose the light cuts out... the manual states it has a momentary operation which it kind of might but the switch is so cheap feeling I wouldn't use the momentary function. There is also a little rubber cover that covers the charging port on the flashlight. This doesn't stay in and if I wasn't returning the light I would be tempted to take this completely off and take my chances.



As far as brightness... I seriously doubt this thing is 240 lumens... I have a 210 lumen flashlight I bought on Amazon (Nu-Flare 77R92L) which is MUCH brighter than this light and much sturdier (although it doesn't have the strobe function and it is not rechargeable)



The only PLUSES for this light are that it came with a HOME and a CAR charger (AC and a DC) which can charge the light directly and it came with a little charging cradle which you can charge the special battery pack with either the ac or dc charger without it being in the flashlight. If you could order a couple of those battery packs to have on hand with the light it could be a nice feature. But all in all the cons outweigh the pros and the light is being returned to amazon.

A well known sportsmans supply store has the Guard Dog 240 on "sale" for $49.95 plus $10 +/- shipping. I got it at Amazon for $29.95 including shipping!The light is better than I thought it might be; It's pretty well made and has a smooth and VERY bright beam, plus it has a lower power beam and a strobe beam as well.It's not quite the quality of my Surefire or Stream Light lights, but a good rechargeable flashlight for 30 bucks it definitely is. The only thing not good, is that there is no mention of who makes it or where they are.

First, the obvious, not as bright as expected. (Owned similar lumin torches previously.) This is however not too concerning, it does fairly light the drying sheds on my rounds. (Night guard at a lumberyard.)



The compass is of decent quality, but like those who reviewed before me, fell off within two days of using it, easily slipped back in and held since then, it may simply be flawed in insertion, I suggest Gorilla gluing the thing in immediately upon receiving.



As for parts, the chargers are cheap Chinese junk, I am hoping replaceable, otherwise I'll be returning the whole thing. The parts are also clunky and a nuisance, the nice box it comes in, is a space waster, and connection points for chargers are weak at best.



The three settings, are highly indistinguishable, apart from off, and emergency strobe, the only difference, is an intensity increase/decrease of about 2-5%.



Primary Concern: This is NOT a tactical light, I would classify this as a survival light, the "tactical" end is good for as much as breaking glass, and likely would not do much to reinforced windshields on cars. The overall strength of the parts and materials is a concern in durability, club someone with it instead of a baton, and say goodbye to your torch.



As for positives, decent size, piercing beam, cheap.





Final Conclusion: Not worth the purchase, I noticed 60 dollar higher lumins as well, choose one of those, this one, unless your real tight on cash, is more trouble than it's worth.

The compass is an excuse for not having a switch at the end. The light is not waterproof, and the approach to the tiny plug for the DC charger is a joke. That plug will not stay in the hole. Poorly designed and not worth even this discounted price. A previous review references a light from a well known sportsman's outlet for $49.95. We have one of those, and it is FAR superior to this light.

What an amazing flashlight!!!

I originally purchased this flashlight because of the rechargeable feature, but I got a lot more than what I asked for. Here's what I noticed:



1. Upon getting the flashlight, I noticed it came in a very nice magnetic flip-top box. The reason I particularly like this, as opposed to heat-sealed packaging, is because it's actually reusable. I has a small compartment each component and makes it easy to transport all the accessories that the flashlight comes with.



2. The body is strong and sturdy. It has a very "expensive" feel to it and it feels very nice in my hands.



3. The wrist strap is actually practical! Some straps seem to be meant for people with miniature hands but this one actually makes it feasible to use around my hands and wrist.



4. The end cap is VERY strong. They said it has a glass breaker or emergency end, and I can certainly see that. In fact, the end cap alone can hurt someone in case you are getting robbed.



5. The light is extremely bright and blinding. The high, low, strobe feature make it extra useful.



6. It comes with a CAR CHARGER? I'll certainly never run low on battery!



7. Yes, the compass is not so great. But just simply ignore it, it won't kill you I promise.



8. $30, including shipping, for all this? A must have!
