Click here for more information I paid almost as much for this as I would have had to pay in the store, and it has never worked since the day I installed it. I kept thinking that maybe it needed to be in awhile and the bad taste would go away, but it has not. Once in awhile it tastes better for a glass or two, but most of the water and ice are terrible. I had a filter in that came with the refrigerator for two years and never had any bad ice or water, and ever since I changed to this one it has all been bad, so there must be something wrong with the filter. It is supposed to be the exact filter that came with my fridge when it was new according to the website, but it does not work the same. I am not entirely sure if it is even new, perhaps they are recycled or maybe it was just defective, but it is too difficult to try to fix it through the internet and the mail, so now I will be forced to go to the local store and buy another after just paying for a new one. If I were you, I would just get your replacements at a local store, if it doesn't work right, at least you can take it back easily and exchange it. I will not order one this way again, I will use a hardware store or department or appliance store.

This filter lasted about 7 months for our family of four. It provides crystal clear and very good tasting drinking water. It's very quick and easy to replace and it can be done in about 30 seconds. The only down side is the cost is a little on the high side and this filter only removes 4 different contaminants. I pay a few more dollars now and get the PUR 4396710 that removes 12 different contaminants including harmful substances like lead, mercury, asbestos. If you want good tasting water then this filter will do the trick. If you want good tasting and healthy water then get the PUR 4396710.

Overall we have found this to be a great water filter. But we have had our water tested by a professional, both at the tap, and at the filtered tap on the refrigerator. Both waters tested the same for chlorine content, however, the particle contaminants were greatly reduced by the filter on the refrigerator.



Something to note on your water filter.



The light is merely a timed indicator of when they want you to replace the filter. Think of it as a "countdown timer" that starts as soon as you reset it. It is in no way measuring the amount of water you are consuming... Personally, I used to change out the filter every 6 months when the indicator light came on, but we rarely use the water/ice now, so I haven't changed it (or reset it) in over a year although I probably will soon. I actually cut the first one in half to see how "contaminated" the filter was and to my surprise, it looked like a brand new filter...



The life of a filter depends on a couple of things.

1. The amount of contaminants in your water (well water is typically the worst)

2. The amount of water that passes through the filter



If you have low contaminants and/or use very little filtered water, your filter will last much longer than 6 months. If you pay attention to the amount of water flow and the size of your ice cubes, you can more accurately determine the proper time to replace the filter.



I have county water and we also have installed a "whole house" water filtration system, so I can probably get closer to 2 years out of a filter. Obviously, not everyone has these installed though, just use common sense on when to replace your filter and you'll be fine.



P.S. Why is it more expensive per unit to buy the 3-pack than it is to buy the 2-pack? Am I the only one that found this odd?

When I installed the new filter I didn't realize that we would go through a period where the water tasted "funny", at least that's how my wife described it. It took about a week for the taste of the water to return to normal. That was the only thing that I didn't realize when I replaced the filter. I have an Amana fridge with a water filter. It was time for a new pack of filters. I put the model number of my old filters in the search engine and I was referred to the Maytag filters and of course a new model number. I hesitated but thought I can always return them if it's not correct. The new filters fit and work great!. It was an easy purchase. Thanks! It is suggested you change your water filters every 3 months. With just two people in the household we change ours every 6-7 months.

I bought an Amana refrigerator a little over a year ago and recently the "Replace Filter" light came on. I shopped several stores around here and was totally confused as to which filter was the right one. I mean, Whirlpool bought Maytag and Amana bought Whirlpool (or something like that), so it is hard to tell which filter was for which fridge. There were no convenient charts to guide you. Finally I went to Google and typed in the part number. Amazon had the best price. We have well water with a whole house filter, but my son noticed the difference right away. Good filter, good price, quick delivery.

This filter was a snap to install, and once I did my water pressure from the dispenser was back to normal. If you've

got a refrigerator that uses one of these filters and the water's been coming out slow then it's probably time for a new filter. One word of advice: use a big water pitcher for the first use of the dispenser after the filter change - the pressure has to readjust and it will spit out a few huge blasts of water that will overwhelm your normal water glass. After the couple of big blasts though, you get constant good pressure, better than you remembered was even possible after the gradual slow down with your old filter.

This filter lasts in our Maytag Ice20 refrigerator exactly one year. It is easy to change. It does make the water taste better, so about $32 per year isn't too much to pay for something we use all the time. I've noticed that this same filter comes with different part numbers and names under the general title of PuriClean II. You may pay more or less to get the same thing, so shop around.

Hi receive the product exactly the estimated arrival date in perfect conditions. Installation was very easy, and we notice clearer water and ice, my old filter was 2 years old, and I haven't notice any bad taste or decoloration in the ice, but after Intall a new one there is certaily a difference in the "taste" of the water and the size and color of the Ice. I recommend this product, and specially the 3 pack, since it eliminate the need to get one every 6 or 12 months, you have enogh for a minimum of 2 years or so.

This flows much slower than the old filter it replaced. It installed just fine, the price was good, and it filters the water and ice. But for filling up your glass with water it takes too long. Click here for more information I purchased Whirlpool filters (item 4396508) as shown in the photo and described in the description. I received generic Water Sentinel filters. Probably an honest mistake, but if I wanted generic filters, I would have ordered them. I will be returning them.

I don't know how this will compare to the REAL "Whirlpool" filter which I thought that I was getting! It says that it is made by Water Sentinel. That is not how it is presented so I am very disappointed.

Like some other reviewers recently, I did not receive a genuine Whirlpool filter as pictured in the description. I received a "Water Sentinel" brand filter. I does fit the refrigerator--mine takes the filter in the lower grille (but it's a Kenmore made by Whirlpool). However, it's not what I believed I was purchasing. The filter itself is very lightweight which makes me question if there's as much going on on the inside as there is in a genuine whirlpool filter. Yes, the price is cheap. No, I'm not going through the hassle of returning it. But buyer beware! :(

I just recieved another brand some after market not the item advertised as Whirlpool.This filter compared to Whirlppol is not the same if you shake it it has something inside that moves. It does not seem to be similar in quality. I do not know why this is not corrected yet on Amazon it still shows Whirlpool product and picture and you recieve a product as Water Sentinel. I did recieve a credit for the error after a few calls so customer service was okay.

Amazon makes it easy to replace these filters that are easy to forget when you are at Home Depot or any home store. The filters are easy to order, takes a couple of days to receive, no sales tax, free shipping, much cheaper, and no gasoline used or crowds to deal with. My water and ice taste great. Since I got my side by side ten years ago, I drink nothing but water and love the taste of good, clean water with all the chemicals and harmful junk filtered out. These filters are easy to install and ease my mind when I think of all the crap that is in the tap water. It is scary what is acceptable as far as water quality standards. I certainly do not want my family drinking unfiltered water. Anyway, got off on a tangent, but bottom line is I highly recommend this filter and the ease of obtaining them.

I'll keep this to the point:

- Ordered a three-pack of the product on this page

- Product arrived and was labeled "Whirlpool" on top and "Pur" on the bottom. It appeared to be genuine OEM

- Have changed out the water filter on this fridge over a dozen times previously with no issues

- Installed one and the water took on rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide) smell

- Water had no such smell with the previous filters

- Thinking I had one bad unit, I installed another one form the 3-pack

- It too imparted the awful smell

- Removed filter completely, smell went away

- Returned this product for a refund

Click here for more information First, I saw that one reviewer has a problem with leaking filters when used in an older Frigidaire. I've had no such problem with the original filter and two replacements that I've installed. (And yuck! to see what those filters have removed from the city water!) So, maybe higher than normal water pressure is the problem and could possibly be regulated. Just a thought.



My Rating:

The filters are 5-star performers but even at Amazon's lower price, I still consider them "pricey", so I dropped a star.



My Tip:

I kept my last filter in until performance (delivered water flow rate) had diminished considerably. It was sort of an experiment in economy. I was surprised when my ice maker started to jam with the under-sized "cubes" (they are actually shaped like half of a large thick coin) resulting from the slower water flow through the old filter. One or more of the ice ejector cogs would get jammed with one of the "runt" cubes. What obviously happens is that the water fill operation is controlled entirely by a timer, so reduced flow results in less water delivered to the tray cavities. The cycle continues and results in small cubes of ice for which the ejectors are not designed.



So my tip is that if you try to extend the life of the filter by accepting the slower water delivery rate, pay attention to the size of the ice cubes. When they are reduced to about two-thirds normal size, the ice maker is likely to become jammed. It's easy to see the problem after removing the cover from the ice maker, but the only solution is to install a new filter. Once I cleared the jam easily by hand but had to (carefully) use an ice pick the next time - and then immediately installed a new filter!

This filter is for my Frigidaire Side-by-side, 26.0 cu ft, Stainless Steel refrigerator. Model # FRS6LF7JS0, S/N: 4A81707239. Manufactured April 2008.



I first operated the water dispenser on 08JULY08. After the RED light came on to change the filter, I kept putting it off...over and over until I became accustomed to seeing the pretty RED light. It complemented the GREEN ice dispenser light very well, especially during the winter holidays.



I finally purchased the replacement filter and replaced it on 14MAY10...yes, that's right, 22 months of filtering and at least 13 months overdue for a change. The filter, being see-through, allowed me to see the bits (albeit small) of debris that floated about when I shook the old filter. It was something of a gagging effect I experienced in my thoughts. I should have changed the filter a lot sooner was the thought thereafter.



The point I wanted to single out is that even though the filter would definitely not pass a health inspection, the water that came out through it was relatively clear...I mean it! I would have never known that the filter was mucked-up had it not been for the RED "change me now!" light. Therefore, this filter is a very good filter.



However, the manufacturer states that this filter is to be replaced after 6-9 months of use or after a flow of 400 US Gallons, whichever comes first. I am assuming that the RED "change me now!" light is initiated by the filter backing up (Differential Pressure a.k.a. Delta-P), if not by this means, then perhaps by a flow meter? Whichever it may be, change your filter when the manufacturer says so. The price is high per unit, but if you were to change the filter out every 6 months, the price per day is approximately $0.19 (approximately $0.13 if every 9 months).



After you install the new filter, the manufacturer says to run water through the filter for 3 minutes. This will cycle out the air in the new filter and kind of give it a rinse at the same time. The water, at first, will come out somewhat like heavily diluted milk, due to the teeny-tiny air bubbles making their way out.



Don't forget to reset your RED filter light (if you have one)!

The PureSurse2 started to leak after 3-months in use. As mentioned in other reviews, my previous PureSourse2 had a plastic shield over the two nipples that plugs into filter compartment. This model does not have the shields and I believe as a result over time, pressure builds up and gradually loosens the connection resulting in the leak. I believe that the maunufacture changed the design as a way to save costs during the maunufacturing. As a result this new design leaks to happen easier.

I bought my Frigidaire SS refrigerator in 2006. It worked great and I usually left the Puresource2 water filter in for 9-12 months between changes. This year the water filter leaks large amounts of water directly from the filter whenever you use the water on the outside of the freezer door. I've replaced this expensive filter every 90-120 days this year. Apparently it's a pretty common problem and the information I've found is that Frigidaire redesigned this filter 2 years ago and now it leaks. Click here for more information It seems there are a LOT of misuderstandings in these reviews. If you own a Sears refridgerator it IS a Whirlpool, or Kitchen Aid, or whatever else with a "Kenmore" name plate on it. Sears doesn't make their appliances and they purchase appliance from varios companys and put their "Kenmore" brand on it. I have a Whirlpool fridge, Whirlpool dishwaher, and GE microwave. They all say Kenmore and the stainless stell matches perfectly. A Sears sales rep will tell you who makes the specific unit. This is true for Kenmore washers & dryers as well, all appliance. Secondly, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Kenmore, etc. do not make the filters. Sears, Whirlpool, etc. sell the filter with their markings on it. PUR make the filter. This is not a cheaper replacement for the filter, it is the same filter. I have been using PUR filters bought on-line for 5 years now and it is the same filter that came in the refridgerator when I bought it. The only thing to keep in mind is that the "universal PUR Filter", that fits all push button, in the grill units, does not have the same filtration as the the specific PUR filter that comes with the fridge. For example the "Universal" filter is about $26 on Amazon and my fridge came with a PUR 4396710 which cost about $32 on Amazon. Both will work, but the $32 unit filters out about 11 types of impurities, the $26 unit is 4 types. I buy the 4396710 to protect my 2 year old and wife. What is $7 more when it's your family's health. They are about $50 each at Sears.



I hope this information helps clear up some misconceptions and helps people make an educated decision on what to buy.

If you go to PUR's website, you'll find that this filter handles only 4 problem areas: (chlorine, sediment, lead, o-dichlorobenzene).



The more expensive #4396710 Kitchenaid/Whirlpool deals with 11 problem areas (the side of the box lists all these in detail: (chlorine, particulates, lead, mercury, benzene, o-dichlorobenzene, toxaphene, asbestos, cysts, turbidity, atrazine).



The strange thing is that the PUR website only seems to show the cheaper filter and its attendant 4 areas of filtering. It may just be my ineptness, but I couldn't find the other better filter on their website.



My wife, wanting the best water, always opts for the more expensive filter. It's around $60 in local area markets. I just ordered one from Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $35 delivered; other internet dealers carry it for around the same price.

First time changing filter. Not sure if all do this, but when i changed, we had extremely high pressure. Im guessing it was acting like there wasnt a filter in at all. Caused water to keep flowing a bit (without pressing).



After that strangeness, took about 6 pitchers to get airbubbles out of filter, etc.





Kenmore and Whirlpool are the samer thing more or less. Works fine now its been in use.

I normally have a tough time finding a filter to fit my Kenmore fridge. Sears is great, but there are none close by to me now. This filter fits perfectly (even though it says Whirlpool) and works great. Ice and water taste so much better than the water straight out of the tap.



Only wish is that Amazon sold them in a 2 pack (since they need changing every 6 months) or subscription.

Quite simply, this works just the same as the Kenmore filter and costs a lot less money. By the way, a service man told us that even this filter is good for twice the use that the light on the refrigerator suggests. Just reset the light and you keep on using it. We've done this and noticed no degrading of taste or water flow.

This product, made by PUR, fits Sears and Whirlpool referigerators.

The key to interchangeability is " push button " filter, in the lower, bottom grill.

Sears wants $50 and local Whirlpool retailler wants $40.

$29.99 is a much better price. Shipping might raise the price a little, but much cheaper than Sears shipping. I hope that this article is linked to the item that I bought, PUR PBSS filter.

I have a Kenmore, and buying the new cartridges through Sears was more expensive ($50/each + shipping). **UPDATE - Seller contacted me after this review and offered to send me a replacement filter, free of charge and free shipping. It arrived VERY quickly (within 3 days of the email). New filter works great, so the 1st filter problem must have just been a fluke. I would order from this seller again. Good product and great customer service.

All three replacement filters from FiltersFast exhibit issues. Poor water flow and squeal from inside the fridge. Replaced new filter with old one and all is fine. New filters are different on the insert - old ones had one large hole with multiple tiny holes around it. New ones have one large hole and two slotted holes on each side. All three new ones are lousy. Takes 45-60 seconds to fill a standard 8oz glass. Not acceptable. Called GE directly who said no change has been made to product line. Bought two more in town, one from Sears, another from HH Gregg. Both have the same design as the new ones from FiltersFast and are also lousy.



I have resorted to using the filter plug in order to have decent water flow. The filter design has obviously changed and either GE is not admitting to it or their representatives are ignorant to the change.



I hate my fridge now and currently using a Brita pitcher filter on the counter top. Neither Filtersfast, Sears or HH Gregg will accept a return. I'm now a proud owner of six new filters, over $200 in cost, that won't work worth a flip. Oh, and those of you who want to repeat what GE told me over the phone - yes, both the old filter with the tiny holes and the bypass plug work fine. There is NO clog in the water line. It's the lousy new filters that GE is pushing to all the vendors.

I live in the Tucson, AZ area and our water is very hard. I test my water regularly out of the tap and it shows 240. I test the water out of my R/O system and it tests at 22. The water coming out of my ref with the GE filter which comes from the R/0 system is 20. I have the cleanest water in our neighborhood. The only issue I had was the GE filter took a couple of months to get back to "normal" testing range. When I fist installed it, the water tested at 40. Now that it's back to "normal" I'm pleased. Also the install was easy - reading the simple directions took longer that the install. You just twist off the old one and twist on the new one and then run about 5 gallons through the system.

Our OEM GE MSWF Refrigerator Water Filter (say that five times fast!) has lasted from May 2010 until now, April 2011. The ice and water we get from the this filter through our fridge is always clear and tastes great, although I have to say our tap water is quite acceptable on its own, so your own filtered water's taste may vary from ours.



The filter we bought in May 2010 installed easily and has obviously lasted a long time; I'm purchasing a replacement through here today as these are still more expensive in the local stores.

We have now installed this filter and used it for approximately a week... the water tastes completely off, and we truly feel like this was a waste of money - as we bought the new filter so that we would not have to spend as much money on bottled water, only to find out that the water tastes so disgusting we can't even drink it. :( - Filters - Ge Water Filter - Water Filter - Fridge Filter
