Walking - step counter, walking

This is the best pedometer that I have owned and yes I have had 4 of them...I reviewed many and am very happy with this purchase!!! It keeps accurate information for review for 7 days and does break down regular to moderate steps taken, miles and time...so if you walk, it keeps an accurate record...if you jog or speed walk, it keeps that accurate under moderate steps...It is not bulky, the clip holds tightly (even when you jog or speed walk) and it is very easy to read the numbers...What an easy set up also with the instuctions provided! I would highly recommend this one!! With my Amazon Prime membership, shipping was free and it came in 2 days!

This is a great pedometer. It works perfectly. I've owned others, and this one is the best. It has no frills whatsoever. It's a pedometer, pure and simple. It does exactly what it's supposed to do.

There's just one problem: It's so small, it's easy to lose. Mine lasted 2 weeks. I'm ordering another one.

Brought this thing on a trip to Disney with me to keep track of how much I was walking each day. To ensure it was accurate I took it jogging with me on a treadmill a couple times before. It was always within .1 mile of what I actually jogged. VERY accurate!

This is a lightweight pedometer that is easy to set up and use. Mine lasted about 3 days. I think it must have slipped off my belt when I sat down somewhere, because on the 3rd day of use I suddenly noticed that it wasn't there anymore. Maybe a stronger belt clip would have prevented the loss. It was a good product while it lasted.

June, 2009: This seemed like a good pedometer while it lasted. The first one slipped off my belt and disappeared so I bought a new one. It seemed to count steps accurately but after a couple of months the back of the pedometer that has the clip separated from the body of the pedometer. It seems that the little screws that hold the clip to the body came out and got lost. Now I have a pedometer in two pieces and no little screws to put it back together. I'm reluctant to buy this same device for the third time, though it worked well during its brief lifespan.

I bought two, one for my wife and one for me. Set up is easy, you just enter height, weight and set the clock. You don't have to enter your stride length. We have had the pedometers for about a month. They work well and seem to be way more accurate (on step count) than other pedometers that we have tried. There is a 4 second delay before it starts logging steps so I think it does a better job of recording true steps as opposed to every little jiggle you may make (it does count the steps you make in those first 4 seconds too). In addition to total steps it also logs moderate step count and time, defined as steps taken in the 3.0 to 6.0 METs as defined by the American College of Sports Medicine. The display is easy to read. The clip keeps the pedometer in place well. It has a seven day memory and automatically starts a new day of logging steps at midnight. We don't use the calorie and mileage trackers. Battery saver function is nice - it turns off the display after 5 minutes with no button being pressed (it does log steps even when the display is off).

This pedometer works great! It doesn't overcount (like if I shake my knee) like many others I tried. The moderate step counter is great for walkers and aerobic exercisers who want to track their progress and be sure their pace is good. The calorie counts seem low compared to the elliptical machine or charts for exercise, but that should just make you want to work harder to get the count higher.

I am on my fourth Omron HJ-151 Hip Pedometer. It works really well and seems to be very accurate in its count of steps. The features are great- all of them work well for me. I love this pedometer and I only have one issue. I keep losing it! One of my favorite features of the pedometer is its size, but it comes with a drawback- the belt clip is small, and the pedometer falls off. The spring clip in itself is strong- but it wriggles its way up the waist of my pants, and inevitably falls off. This time, I attached a rubber band to the pedometer and wound it around my belt loop in an attempt to keep it from falling. It has worked so far and is an inexpensive security device to keep this pedometer in place.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this thing is to work and how completely accurate it is. I work in a hospital and it clips and stays easily on my scrubs. I've already bought another one as a gift. One day I held it in my hand and walked over 300 steps with complete accuracy ... I can't ask for any better than that. The moderate steps feature is so important to me. There have been days when I felt like I was on my feet all day and my steps may have been near my 10,000 a day personal goal... but the moderate minutes were only 5-10. So I know that I still have some work to do to get to the 30 minutes goal of moderate exercise each day. I think it's a great motivator. - Step Counter - Walking - Fitness - Omron Pedometer

Weight Loss - omron pedometer, walking

I have both the omron 720it (computer downloadable) and hj 112...both are extremely accurate and easy to use...this revision of the pedometer concept is terrific...small but large numbers...easy to set and use...it really does work in any position...the display blanks out to save power so it is inconvenient to constantly be looking at it...still not much of a problem...i checked it against my other omrons and it's within 0.7%...it keeps better track of aerobic activity than the others (they only record after 10 min of activity...the hj 303 after 4 seconds)...overall, the size (small) and accuracy and ease of use make this pedometer an outstanding device for walking or running.

This pocket pedometer is smooth & slim and easily fits in a pocket for use. The leash has a good clasp and using it makes me comfortable that the pedometer isn't going to slip out of my pocket. It also has an adjustable clip, to use on a waist band or belt.

Tracks moderate pace walking in addition to the overall steps for the day. I never need to reset it, unless I want to track the overall total for a specified event (the TRIP function). It doesn't lose the data for the week, and the counter starts fresh after midnight each day.

I really like this little pedometer. I've had so many pedometers you would think I collect them (hmmmm...maybe I do now!) This one is easy to set. It has a removable beltclip that is easy to install and holds comfortably on my waistband. With other pedometers I've had problems with them popping off if I bend over or sit down. This one is small so doesn't get that same upwards pressure on it when I move that way. It is easy to slip in a front pants pocket and small enough to work well in a shirt pocket as well (although I haven't used it that way). I haven't tried it in my purse, but I suspect it would work that way as well since it handles being carried in my pocket just fine and I've also tried carrying it in my hand to test the accuracy there. I think I've bought my last pedometer...I love this one. I really like being able to see just how many steps I've taken and that it encourages me to keep moving toward my 10,000 steps a day. And, it's small and light enough that I often forget I'm even wearing it!

This pedometer is the best one we have ever had and we have had lots of them. We bought ours in June 2009. I got two of them to track our daily walking activity. We walk a miniumum of 10K steps per day and the Omron tracks it very accurately. It is small, about 3 by 1 1/4 inches, weighs 31 grams with the lanyard and clip attached, is easy to carry in our pocket or attach to our clothing or belt, and automatically goes into battery saving mode by turning off the display after a couple of minutes. The display is reactivated when touching one of the three buttons, memo-up arrow, mode-single dot, and CLR-down arrow. There is a recessed reset button on the back that is used to change or reset any of the options or the time. It can easily be pressed with a paper clip or the tip of a lead pencil.

We use ours every day. The only time we really take them off is at night. We compare our steps every once in a while to see who is ahead for the day. It is silly but fun and keeps us motivated to walk more. I used ride a bike but not so much lately because the Omron does not register steps when biking :-).

Likes

Accuracy - we found it to be very accurate in measuring steps and distance. I confirmed it with my iPhone app that measures and tracks distance and speed using the built-in iPhone GPS. In a 2 mile walk there was very little difference in the distance or number of steps walked. The Omron needed to be calibrated with the length of our stride and then it accurately measured distance traveled. It was also very accurate at determining when we had taken a step no matter how we were holding the Omron. It does not track non-steps because it knows that steps are rhythmic and will not even consider any steps taken until at least 4 "steps" are recognized by the device and these 4 steps are then added to the step count in addition to current steps that are being taken. It does not continuously update the display with each step; instead it only updates the screen periodically to conserve battery life.

Medium steps - It counts the number of steps we take between about 2.5 and 3.5 mph, which is always smaller than the total number of steps. This is very useful because my wife's Weight Watcher charts only count medium steps. We try to get at least 10k steps each day and usually about 7-8k of them are medium steps.

Multiple displays and history - It provides 7 days of history for each of the displays except the trip display. The displays are: Step count, current time, moderate step count, moderate minutes, calories used, distance traveled, trip steps, trip days. We can see the current day values for all of these displays as well as yesterday, 2 days ago, etc., up to 7 days back. The trip steps and trip days is used for tracking total number of steps and the number of days it took to get those steps. This last display can be reset at anytime if we want to keep track our total steps taken or use it to track the steps on a specific trip. The counter only goes to 999,999 so it is not good for tracking total steps over a long period. The display values reset to zero each night at midnight to count the steps taken on the new day. The trip displays do not reset until we do it manually.

Customizable - There are several values we can change to get accurate information out of the displays. These values can be changed by pressing the recessed reset button on the back. It first asks for the current time, weight, height, and stride length. Instructions are provided to easily determine our stride. If any of these values ever need updated pressing reset again will take us through the screens with the current value of the particular option displayed first.

Multiple attachment methods - It comes with a belt clip, lanyard, and clip that goes on the end of the lanyard. The belt clip is small and the Omron slides in and out of the clip vertically and is quite snug. The other clip is very unique. I had never seen one like it and when I learned how it worked I wondered why all clips are not made this way.

Excellent customer support - I had a problem with mine. The time kept resetting without my intervention. I opened an online ticket and received a quick response and fix for the problem. Turns out I had my pedometer and Blackberry Pearl in the same pocket and the RF from the phone reset the time on the Omron once in a while. They fixed it in a heartbeat after I have been experiencing this problem for several weeks.

Low cost - This was a very low cost item for the functions it provides and the 3-axis capability, which we found very helpful. I actually bought a 3rd one to have just in case one of the other two goes bad.

Suggestions

Separate out trip from total steps - Right now you must pick between total steps walked by simply never resetting this value and trip steps. Although the display says trip steps it can be used for total steps walked for any duration until it reaches 999,999 steps. The total steps display should have an additional digit so that 10m steps could register. We reach 999,999 in about 3 months so an additional digit on the step counter would allow almost 3 years of total steps walked.

Add more days in the memory - There are currently only 7 days of memory. Increasing this to at least a month would be very helpful. If we could also just hold down the up/down arrow keys to scroll it would make it easier to scroll through more days.

Add total moderate steps and days display - trip steps counts all steps taken since the value was last reset. Adding another display for total moderate would be helpful for those who want to achieve an average number of moderate steps over time.

Date setting - It would be helful to provide a date setting so that you could see the date and day of week for any prior period that was saved in the history.

Make it smaller - there is unneeded space between the display, the buttons, and the outer edge of the device. Although it's pretty small and light now, a smaller device would be even better, The battery compartment can be shifted to the middle rather than on the bottom of the back. - Omron Pedometer - Walking - Step Counter - Health

Exercise - fitness, health

This is a casual pedometer. This is not a scientific instrument.

My favorite thing about this pedometer is the clock -- it is summer in Arizona, and wearing a watch makes me itchy. Handy to have a clock on this thing.

The second best thing about the pedometer is the size -- it is slim and tinier than my MP3 player.

It is easy to set and easy to reset.

However, this baby counts steps I did not take. Seriously. Just putting it on a dresser overnight can pick up a couple of hundred steps on the counter (from traffic vibrations? who knows?)

Additionally, it is not sweat-resistant. I've tried it on a lanyard and in a pocket -- if you get it sweaty working out, the display goes blank.

I use it all the time as a clock -- it quite handy for that purpose. But it is basically useless at its designed function. Put a stopwatch and a beep timer on it, take away the step counter, and it would be a better product, in my opinion.

I got this pedometer at a store because its design was appealing, and pedometers can provide a lot of inspiration to exercising right. Now, I regret it, because its many cons have made it useless as a worthy tool to track steps.

Pros:

Mainly, the looks and design. Not only does this pedometer look cool, but its design is beneficial as well. It's so thin, that you can just slip it into a sock, or put it in a small, tight pocket. The sleek gray color and location of the buttons make it look cool, too. The design of this pedometer make it much more visually appealing than other pedometers, but...

Cons:

The fatal flaw of this pedometer is its inaccuracy. It's so sensitive that it easily records steps to your slightest movements even when you're sitting still or down. Unintentionally moving around in a pocket triggers the oversensitive sensor as well. Even the action of putting it in your pocket to start the day triggers four or five steps. I've found that this pedometer sometimes records TWICE the amount of steps as another more reliable one that I bought after this one.

Surface is a bit too weak and prone to minor scratches, fingerprints, and dents. I find that the surface of this pedometer is a bit weak. It's prone to scratching and little dents if you abuse it too much or over-clean it. This is not really a big issue, but I thought I might point it out anyway. It attracts fingerprints and if you press too hard on the wrong part of the device, you'll get one of those irreversible little dents. I did this accidentally when pressing and missing one of the buttons (oops!).

Price. Seriously, the price on this pedometer is just incredibly ridiculous. For such a poor product, the price is just crazy.

Overall, I think I made it clear that you don't want to buy this product. I'd recommend a Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer instead. It's about the same price but much more accurate.

I bought this Pedometer yesterday at Dicks sporting goods... It will be going back to the store today for a refund. Extraordinarily sensitive and inaccurate. If you wave your hand back and forth 1 inch very slowly it will count up. Sitting in a chair and shifting it will count up. This is an absolute POS and should be taken off the shelves in every store.

Somehow, the Sportline brand has gotten a position in nearly every retail outlet like target, kmart, dicks, etc. So I have had the misfortune to have tried 3 different Sportline pedometer models (none of which have lasted or worked), including this 304 hanging version. A family member thought this hanging style would be more comfortable than the belt clip style. However, hanging from a belt loop it didn't give an accurate count. Neither would it work when carried in a pocket. The final straw was when we wore it together with a new Timex W180US belt-clip style. The Sportline 304 didn't even come close to the number of steps shown by the Timex. The Timex company needs to get some shelf space for their pedometer line. Presently, the only place I can find this better pedometer is at Amazon and I have just ordered my second Timex pedometer. - Fitness - Health - Omron Pedometer - Pedometer

Pedometer Leash - pedometer leash, safety

Lost one pedometer (expensive one from my wife) the first week of wearing one. Got a leash and haven't lost one in months since, though at least 4 times have found pedometer hanging from leash. The fact that I also wear a fanny pack while walking may increase my loss rate, having that rubbing against it. So leash may be less essential for you than for me.

Bought as a replacement for the pocket leash and alligator clamp that came with an Omron Walking Style Pedometer. When the pedometer is carried loose in a pocket it NEEDS the lanyard and clamp, or I found it will lose up to half the steps I take. Clamping it -- even on a leash -- keeps the pedometer in synch with your hip motion, and thus able to record every step.

This leash came with two alligator clamps -- one plastic and one metal. I choose the plastic clamp, as it seemed closest in appearance to the Omron original. I have found that the replacement plastic clamp does NOT have the clamping bite -- the hold -- the original had. It works most of the time, but comes loose too much. (I can not speak for the metal clamp, since I discarded it when I installed the replacement lanyard.)

Still, this replacement lanyard and clamp makes the pedometer count steps correctly and the price was right.

Shipping was quick too!

I have an Omron Pedometer that works beautifully....the only design fault is that the the security clasp is made of plastic which eventually broke......I replaced the clasp with the safety leash which works very well. It is a very simple metal device (think the clasp on a pair of suspenders with a 10" connecting strap) which takes the worry out of losing the pedometer. The cost of shipping was more than the leash but it was/is a good purchase...... a wise move if you're concerned about the possible loss of your Pedometer

The Safety leash for Pedometer was a total waste of money. The item was poorly constructed with poor quality materials. I could have made it in my basement and done a better job at a fraction of the cost. In addition, the pedometer came with a Safety Leash included. I would send it back but the shipping cost is greater that the purchase price of this piece of elastic with a clip on one end. DON'T BUY, DON'T, DONT'T BUY.

No instructions came with the leash on how to string it in order to attach it to the pedometer, but that was good because I had to flex my brain muscle a bit to figure it out and it was fun. A pedometer safety leash is a must, as I am sure pedometer users know.

This is a great little clip that is easy to use and works great. It never falls off my cloths no matter what I am doing. I wear it every day. I have lost several pedometers and this clip has saved my newest one several times! Highly recommend it.

I chose this productSafety Leash for Pedometer (1) Unit. Helps Save Pedometers From Loss after reading the reviews for the particular Pedometer I purchased. The leash is well made, and is so easy to attach to a pedometer or cell phone and your pocket, waist band or belt. It's hard to believe such a good product is selling for this low a price.

The metal alligator clip catches on some thinner fabrics. The original lanyard I received with my Omron pedometer had a plastic clip which was much better. I simply wore that one out. This one is okay but I would much prefer the plastic clip. - Pedometer Leash - Safety - Omron Pedometer - Walking

10000 Steps - walking, step counter

I love my little pedometer! It's just the added motivation to get moving that I needed.

The HJ-203 is small and light, with an easy to read large display.

Benefits are:

- Accurately counts steps whether it is in my pocket, on my belt, or in my purse.

- Fastens securely with a locking clip

- 7 day history for steps, distance, & calories (with a separate counting for exercise/action mode)

- Special mode for exercise - this really helped accuracy while running!

I would highly recommend this pedometer. And as a fun feature, if you make the 10,000 step goal, there is a small figure on the display celebrating your accomplishment!

I wanted something I could put in my pants pocket during the day no matter if I had shorts, jeans or dress pants. This fits the bill. Easy to setup and read out and keeps 7 days of data so I do not need to check it every day.

I am very pleased with this item. I owned a previous model of Omron that seemed to wear out and not keep steps as accurately at the end of its life. I found that model pretty accurate until after about 2 years of regular use. I knew Omron offered quality products, and decided to replace my failing pedometer with this newer model. This is definitely the most accurate pedometer I have ever had. As others have mentioned, it is necessary to ensure that the pedometer remain in a near perfect vertical or horizontal position in order for it to accurately record. Amazingly, it works perfectly well while even being placed completely upside down, as long as it is fairly vertical. I usually don't have trouble with positioning, though. I like that this model is small, so it is easy to conceal. However, I do miss not having a clip for it, like I did for my previous pedometer. Being a woman who rarely wears pockets, most of the time, I place my pedometer into position in my undergarments and use the clip to prevent a loss in case the pedometer dislodges. I know that eventually the plastic clip that comes with this device will wear out, (as it did with my previous model), so I went to the baby/infant section of my local department store and bought myself a stainless steel, durable clip that is used to prevent loss of pacifiers. This will make the perfect replacement when my clip eventually wears out. I have used the activity function, and although it is interesting, I admit I don't use it that often. I'm mainly more interested in the total cumulated steps at the end of the day. All in all, I really enjoy this pedometer and am glad I bought it. I would recommend it for its accuracy and small size. I even appreciate the animated character that jumps in celebration when I reach my 10,000 steps. As silly as this may seem, I know that on more than one occasion, I found creative ways in getting steps, just so I could view my celebrating character. You will not be disappointed in this purchase. - Walking - Step Counter - Omron Pedometer - Fitness
