I ordered this unit and received it in less than 5 days. Since I have never owned a HSI, I wanted to try it out before putting it on the shelf. All I can say is that I like this unit better than my CHI and it was 40 bucks cheaper. I was blessed (or cursed, if you choose) with very thick, curly hair. For years, I have wanted to wear those cute bobs and sleek looks. I never thought it would happen.



Several months ago, I ventured out of my comfort zone and let my new (yes, I said new) hairdresser cut my hair into one of the stylish asymmetrical bobs. I definitely looked like a million bucks when I left the salon and thought I'd have this one day of perfect hair and the next two months of a frizzy balled up mess.



A co-worker let me borrow one of her cheap irons and I used it until I found this one. I had researched online for what seemed like an eternity and decided to buy this one - by the time I made up my mind, it had sold out. I certainly had hoped that the HSI would give me that 'just walked out of the salon' look that the cheaper store brand hadn't (tons of fly-aways and daily frizzies...)



During the holidays, I checked back in on Amazon for it's availability. I had seen it advertised for about $89 then it jumped to $149 when I finally decided on it. Needless to say, I was disappointed when it wasn't available and really forgot about ordering it until after the holidays. When my co-worker needed hers back, I knew that I needed to order one and found it back in stock with Amazon.



It arrived in a few short days and I was eager to try it out.



I plugged it in the next morning and had absolutely NO trouble using it. It gets very hot very quickly and I didn't need the hottest setting like I thought. The iron glides over my hair and leaves it shiny and smooth. Even the shorter pieces of the back of my hair are easy to straighten.



I have gotten more compliments since using this iron than I ever have before. It is definitely a must have for 'hair novices' like me and definitely worth the price.

This is the BEST 1" ceramic straightener I have ever used, and the price is phenomenal. I'm not sure why that other reviewer thought that this iron was a Chi product, but I'm happy that it's not. I had never heard of HSI before ordering, but I will defiantly buy any other hair tools that they make. The iron heats up quickly and has floating plates. My hair was very shiny after use, and I didn't need to use any sprays or sheens. With this flat iron, I can curl my hair, flip my hair, and of course straighten my hair. After use, my hair was bouncy and it looked almost as good as when I go to the hair salon. I could go on for hours about how much I love this new flat iron, but don't take my word for it, buy one for yourself before they raise the price. I forgot to mention that there is a teeny tiny bottle of hair serum that comes in the box with the flat iron. It works very well, but it is just a sample size, so don't expect it to last for more than 2 uses.

I agree with most. I have never heard of this brand before so I was nervous about ordering one. I currently have a Chi and I thought it was going out so I just ordered one to try it. I am impressed. I have super curly natural hair and my mom asked me today if I got it chemically straightened. I love this product. I should have ordered a spare. I still have never heard of them but they now have a regular customer. I did not get the chi smoothing serium as promised but instead it was biosilk. That was fine with me it works just as well.

After two years my Chi had quit working. I paid well over $120 for my Chi straightener. I found the HSI, read the reviews and decided to give it a whirl. I love this straightener, it truly does a way better job than my chi. My hair is a little course and very thick, but my hair was left silky, bouncy and shiny after using the HSI. I highly recommend this product!

Fast shipment, got it a month before Christmas...it's valued at nearly a 100 dollars, but I scooped it out for a wonderful deal. I must admit that I wasn't going to buy an high-priced product like this...but, I'm glad I took the risk. Thanks Amazon!

Anyways the hair comes out like silk. I never seen her hair so straight, and it only took 15min to do vs. usually 45min to an hour and it wouldn't come out as good. Click here for more information I shopped around on Amazon before buying this one because I had specific product requirements: ceramic hotplates, rounded edges so it wouldn't catch and tug/tear my hair, multiple heat settings and not overpriced. This one has all these features and it came with free shipping. So far I have not had any problems with it, it does exactly what it advertises and it makes my hair look great - I have thin hair but it has a lot of body/wave to it and this iron makes it sleek and it will stay for most of the day. Because my hair is thin I don't have the heat setting too high so I don't toast it, you can set it really hot, so if I was going out in the evening it only takes a couple of minutes to touch up. I've had this flat iron for about a year - never had a problem. Gets seriously hot - my thick, ultra wavy hair is totally tamed by it. Slides through with no problem, and my hair actually feels HEALTHIER now - not the heat stroked, dryed out mess I feared after such long use.



10 minutes every other day and people actually think my hair is naturally straight! A couple of people even asked if I'd had a straight perm ... that is serious results for a girl who has been fighting with a flipping, curling, wavy mess her whole life.



I have medium hair and like the 1 inch - for anything longer than the shoulders I would get a 1.5 or 2 inch.

After 4 years I had to replace my old straightener and decided to get this one after some research. The price and great ratings are the main thing that caught my eye. After paying 16 bucks for my old straightener which worked great, I wasn't shelling out 50+ bucks for another one. So here's a breakdown:



Pros:

1. Heats up quickly. 25 settings for any hair type. I consider my hair more on the thin side, but I like to keep it set to around 20 when I straighten my hair, I could honestly keep it a bit lower and still straighten fine.

2. Glides over your hair smoothly, no pulling. It feels like a straightener isn't being used on my hair at all.

3. On/Off Button.

4. Exceptionally long cord with a swivel feature (good if you need to straighten someone else's hair or don't have an outlet right next to your mirror).

5. Eliminates any frizz or flyaway hairs I have and straightens each section in one go.

6. Easy to flip or curl the ends of your hair.

7. I saw a comment about the plates having a gap, which is something I don't like about some straighteners. But with this one the plates get pressed together perfectly, no gap.

8. Great Price!



Cons:

1. It does get very hot. I wouldn't recommend the highest setting, unless nothing lower works. I can see how people would burn their hair using this if they just set it to 25 right away.

2. No lock feature to keep it closed when not in use. I loved this about my old straightener.

3. It has a piece of plastic that comes down after the plates in the middle of the straightener. I think this is to help limit the pressure put on the plates when squeezing the straightener closed. Sometimes my hair gets caught in the plastic 'tooth' when I straighten. But this is just an error on my part for trying to straighten too much hair at once or putting my hair too far back in the straightener and not realizing it.



Overall I highly recommend this straightener. I don't see the need to pay $100+ for a Chi, when people I know have had them break so easily. I can straighten my hair in 5-10mins and even though my hair normally curls like crazy in the Florida humidity, it stays straight throughout the day after using this.

The main issues I have with this iron is that it gets incredibly hot on the outside felt area (near the ceramic tongs), and that in combination with the problem that the hand clamp (when used as intended, with your hands on the half of the iron near the cord) does not entirely depress the tips of the ceramic iron together means you have to clamp down further up on the iron (using the felt area) in order to get it to properly depress all the way. Since the iron is poor at keeping the heat only in the ceramic iron part of the tool, you're probably going to be getting your hand burnt if you really want to use this tool effectively.



To me that is a fundamental failure in the design of this iron and I can't recommend it at any price.

I was skeptical of this product but I figured for 35 bucks, I'd take a chance. A few years ago I bought a Conair straightener for nearly 70 dollars and it was worthless, so I was a bit skeptical as I said. However, when I got it in the mail yesterday evening, I plugged it in and I was amazed. I have rather wavy, tough, thick hair. I thought the only way to tame it was a chemical straightening, which I did 2 years ago and it was soooo expensive. I plugged this straightener in and it heated up within seconds. Not minutes, people. The first time I ran it across a bit of my hair, I was shocked. This is an amazing hair straightener and I am sooooo happy I purchased it. It turned my thick hair into something that looked so amazing. I've never seen anything like it. I would highly highly highly recommend this product for anyone who had coarse thick hair, or just anyone who wants straight hair. There is a world of difference between a cheap one and THE CHI. Ok, so for the "no warranty issue", Amazon sells it for $94.00, other places sell it for $135.00. If you have a problem with it you can mail it along with $35.00 and they will fix or replace (per the website), so I took the risk, and anyway, the warranty is only for a year, so after that you have to pay the extra $35.00 if it breaks. I loved my CHI! But when it broke four months after I had paid for it, I found out some bad news. The one year warranty is VOID if you buy it from Amazon, because they are not an authorized dealer!So now I have to buy a new one or pay to have mine fix, which will take from 3-5 WEEKS! Amazon really needs to tell their customers warranty is void when they buy it, because Amazon WILL NOT REPLACE IT!

I have struggled to get the hang out of my cheap flat iron for my wedge/bob hairstlye. Well, struggle no more! this iron is awesome and fast. It beats the 'cheapies' hands down. I also like it because it is thin! I thought (in my ignorance) using a larger iron would be easier, but not so. Its much easier to use this one. Plus... It comes in a limited edition pink style if you like that sort of thing (which I do). I also love this iron because its really easy to curl the ends of your hair. Just twist and go.



Make sure to use some product to protect your hair and be careful with it! You can burn your ears, neck and hands -It's HOT!

I have typical African American hair that is course, dry, and needs a lot of oil and moisturization to maintain a soft, straight texture to my hair. I try to refrain from relaxing my hair as long as possible, so I usually wash and blow dry my hair with a comb attachment and liquid oil, which works very well to straighten and shine hair (but not leave it heavy and greasy). I use a flat iron (in conjunction to marcel wax (a God send) or pressing oil (the one that starts with D) on those spots that need some additional smoothing and shine. Since my hair is very thick, this process can take about two hours! I usually have the pass the iron through several times with moderate success in smoothing the hair. I bought this iron, after seeing such excellent reviews. I opened the package, and saw that there's no temperature control, which was concerning, but I decided to test it out. It took one pass on a section of hair, and that strand was completely STRAIGHT!!! Excited, I finished my head in 20 minutes instead of 2 hours...Thanks to this iron, I can wash, condition and straighten my hair in less than an hour!!! It's so soft and shiny, even after a day since using the iron. Five stars!!!

The CHI is great- when it works. I got my first CHI a few years ago, after a couple of months the light stopped staying on and it would get cool again. I sent it back because of the one year warranty. The replacement they sent me?? did the same thing. This year for Christmas my mom bought me a new one. That thing lasted two days before it stopped working comPLETELY. I am very unhappy with this. It is an expensive product. I never dropped any of these. I can't imagine how shoddy they put them together.

Click here for more information I consider myself to be a hair product junkie and expert.You name it i probably know about, have it, or tried it. I have used a Solia Flat Iron for 5 years. She still kicks but not quite like she use to. I can't pin point it. It still gets hot but maybe not as even. Anyway I decided to try some cheaper iron just until I could splurge on another solia or comparable iron. I found this at target. The whole teflon thing made sense to me. Anyone who cooks knows the joy of a non-stick surface. IN theory hair gliding with less friction/strain would have less breakage. My first time using it. I started at around 1/2 way on the heat dial and I realized how crazy hot it was so i turned it down. Mostly out of fear my smoke alarm might go off. First Pass and I was like you have to be kidding me! ?! I am african american and my hair was in dire need of a relaxer and a deep condition. It was dry dry...that one pass left my hair sooo soft and shiny. I had some kind of shock. Then I asked myself how much i paid for this thing?? seriously?! Just get one. It's equal to any of those expensive irons minus the damage. Also, I can leave this iron at a 5 and my hair is pin straight... it smokes/steams a lot. Doesn't leave a smell or fried feeling. I think the iron reacts to left over conditioner and products in the hair and causes the smoke on the plates. I would be scared to put this thing on high. I have no idea how anyone could say it doesn't get hot enough?! Are you trying to burn your hair off? Is it plugged in? Did you let it heat up for a few minutes? There is no reason anyone should need to put 410 degrees on their hair and then to say it didn't get hot enough...



**Update-I think they are selling a different model these days...mine does not look like the one pictured. I will see if I can get the updated product and review that one as well.** Oh and I recently tried my old one after using the Sedu for awhile. I purchased this Remington after my Revlon flat iron literally blew up in my hand! I had another Jilbere flat iron as a back-up but after buying this, I've already ditched it. This one is different and I really like the teflon fiber plates. I have fine, wavy, frizzy hair and I usually have to iron twice to get my desired effect, but this iron is so efficient, it took only one pass and my hair is STRAIGHT! Iron get's very hot - heat setting was at 10 and hot. I REALLY like the feel of the teflon over a ceramic or metal surface it does seem to hug the hair better. Also has a swivel cord, to it won't kink and create an electrical hazard (like my revlon did). Controls are in just the right spot too, they don't get in the way at all. I'm glad I bought this!

I was extremely happy with this straightener until I noticed that it wasn't working as well as it normally does. One side of the iron no longer heats up. Becasue this happened 5 months after I purchased the iron, I could no longer return it via Amazon. However, I contacted Reminton's warranty department and they graciously sent out a new unit. Now this is a company that backs up their products. Highly recommended.

This lil sleek flat iron is amazing! My purpose of buying this straightener is because of its "damage control." I love my hair! It's all natural and I don't want to ever damage it anymore by always straightening and curling. This iron is gentle on the hair and doesn't break it as you pass down. I also bought this because I wanted to avoid that "burning" smell on your hair. This one is covered with teflon fiber. Now, I have never used such a thing, but I figured, what do I have to lose. And it works amazing! I put products in my hair, and even when I run the flat iron through, it leaves the scent of whatever my hair product way! It also has tourmaline which reduces the fly-aways! The max heat is 430* and heats up within 20 sec! I had been blow-drying straight my naturally curly hair since the 7th grade. Well, after two (almost three) kids, I just do not have that kind of time to self-indulge anymore! Also, I live in Florida and always hated the way blow-drying would make me hot and sweaty first thing in the morning. So - I've been wearing my hair natural for a while. And, quite frankly, was getting a little tired of it. So I did a little research to find an affordable flat-iron and decided on this one. I also like that the teflon plates are supposed to be less-damaging - since I still want to wear my hair curly sometimes. I used it for the first time last night and I am SOLD! I read the directions carefully, and it actually says that it heats up in 30 seconds - which is awesome for someone already time-crunched. MUCH better results than blow-drying + round brush + brush rollers! And no sweatiness. I also really appreciate that it comes with a lock - to keep out curious little fingers. My hair is straight after blow drying and using a curling iron to smooth it out, but 20 minutes later my hair doesn't look as smooth anymore. I'd never tried a flat iron before but thought that since I was essentially using a large curling iron to smooth it down in the same manner, maybe a flat iron would be the way to go. Since I'd never had one before I came here and did some extensive research into what type to get. I knew that they could be very expensive and was willing to pay if it was worth it, but luckily came across this item. It was so cheap that I figured if it didn't work well, so be it, I wouldn't be broke because of it and I'd just go buy another. Well, there was no need to worry because this thing works great. My hair has never looked this good in my life. The first time I used it I went out and everyone was asking me, what did you do to your hair, it looks great. Even on a day when it's raining my hair stays straight. It used to be that even a hint of rain or humidity and my hair would start to fuzz up, but no more. And I'm finally getting used to it, where it was taking me what seemed forever to straighten all my hair I now have down to a science and it takes just minutes to do. If you're new to flat irons and thinking of getting one of those ultra expensive models, do yourself a favor and try this one first, you won't be sorry and you'll have saved yourself a ton of money. This is the best straightener I've ever used--and you can't beat the price either! I have coarse hair that is part wavy, part curly and part straight and is also fairly frizzy. This works like a dream. My hair is so soft, smooth and shiny after I use it (no more waves or frizz). I started using it two weeks ago and every day someone new tells me how good my hair looks. Andis makes a much better straighener than Conair (my Conair was a piece of junk that didn't do anything for my hair). It's easy to use and the different heat settings are great.

This flat iron also makes great curls! I have long fine hair...and a ton of it. I always run into trouble with regular curling irons...it curls great, then falls within a few hours, even with a lot of product in my hair. I saw flat iron curls a few weeks ago and decided to try it myself. The Andis flat iron was the mid-priced one at a local store. I was searching for a cheap flat iron to store at my boyfriend's house so that I would not have to transport my Solia 1 1/4'' Ceramic Tourmaline back and forth each weekend. I wanted a product that looked similar to my Solia since I was already accustomed to using it. I found this one and purchased it due to high reviews. It arrived the next day (bonus points), even though I received free shipping. At a price a little over $17, this item met all my expectations. Some reviewers on other sites have stated that this Andis is just as good if not better than a $100+ CHI, but I highly doubt that is so. When I opened the product from its plastic case, I could tell right away that the quality was not comparable to my Solia which was ~$85. So if you are able to spend the extra dollars, definitely go for a higher end iron, as it is much worth its price. Anyhoos, as for this specific product, it is able to go up to 375 degrees (as stated on its packaging). However, the heat dial on the iron is not in units of degrees, rather it is on some sort of scale from 0-20. First I set the dial to 15, but felt the heat radiating from it from a foot away, so I truned the dial down to 10. It heated up in about a minute. I have found that I could get my hair straight on the first go if I just went slowly with a small section of hair at a time. I had permed my hair into loose waves last Decemeber, and now that it's grown out a bit, I have found the curls to look a bit awkward and prefer to straighten it when I have the time. For reference, I have thick, Asian hair that is naturally pretty straight (but now chemically permed). I was able to straighten my hair in less than 10 minutes, taking care to straighten the bottom, middle, and top portions separately. I used VO5 Heat Defense spray to protect my hair and let it dry prior to ironing. However, I did not feel that my hair was as smooth or as shiny as when I used my Solia. A couple times while I was ironing with the Andis, I could feel the plates catching a couple hairs and pulling them out (ouch). I also live in the tropics where heat and a lot of humidity don't exactly help my hair remain frizz free. I was very skeptical when I first bought this product because I had tried many hair straighteners and all had given me poor results. Thank goodness that I was finally proven wrong! This product definitely does what it says it will do and is very affordable in comparison to other products on the market. I flatten my hair after I blow dry it and I have finally been able to tame my wild hair into soft, smooth, silky, straight hair. I have been getting plently of compliments but most importantly, I feel happy with my hair! I have recommended this product to friends and family and they have also acheived wonderful results. I recommend that you buy a deep conditioning treatment (Redken Heavy Cream) and leave it in your for 15 minutes with a self warming cap, rinse out and apply a heat protectant on your hair (Redken Heat Glide) before the process. I know this review may not be very helpful to most of you but I am just going to name some problems with this straigtening iron to warn you.I have wavy hair too so some of these problems may not affect you.



-It doesn't straighten wet hair.(It actually does, but my hair is still partially wet and it becomes wavy after it dries)



-It is only COATED in ceramic, after a while of use, it eventually chips off, leaving your hair exposed to even more damage than it has already done.(I'd suggest getting a ceramic plated straightener)



-The straight hair doesn't last. After a day at school, it starts getting wavy, especially if it is humid outside.



-It does damage to your hair. Its not as bad as those $10.00 ones but you still end up with a bunch of split ends and frizzy, damaged hair



There are also good things to it too, and it seems awesome when you first get it but eventually after a short while it wears down. I'd suggest getting a little bit more expensive hair straightener that will live up to the price.

I read the reviews and was quite skeptical since I've tried almost everything to straighten my coarse, thick, curly hair. I get my hair chemically relaxed about every 9 months. But the results keep my hair still curly, just not as bad. I've used ionic hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc. It usually is an hour and a half process and me sweating half of my body weight in the bathroom! But this product eliminated the hair dryer...no sweating! It straightened quite nice! I used a comb in conjunction. That's the only thing I wish it had built in. My hair section was completely dry in the one passage. The entire process only took me about a half hour! Just make sure you condition well and use a good hairspray to ensure lasting results. I used my curling iron to secure and smoothe my ends. I'm impresssed.

I have long, moderately thick, wavy hair with a total mind of its own -- lots of product and/or putting it up seemed to be the only solution to gaining a neat, all-day style. (I'm not ready or willing to take the step of chemically straightening.) I had completely despaired of ever being able to successfully straighten my hair myself, no matter how much I quiz my stylist -- I've tried all kinds of gadgets and products that promise how easy it will be, and invariably end up with a big frizzy bush on my head that I have to pin up anyway.

I haven't tried it yet on freshly towel-dried hair, but may do so on a weekend when I have more time. I typically let my hair air dry for about 45 minutes to an hour, while I go about the rest of getting ready for my day, and I use a straightening product (Fructis smoothing milk). In about 15-20 minutes I have glossy, dry, STRAIGHT hair. It is AMAZING and I am so happy!



Note: there are two sizes, wide and slim. The packaging made no distinction about the difference, but a helpful sales clerk said that the wide plates work better on long hair, and the slim plates are better for short hair.

I can't believe all of the bad reviews! This straightener is awesome! I have really thin and sensitive, wavy hair, and all of the other straighteners I've used just made my hair REALLY frizzy, or even burn it! The worst part was, they didn't even straighten my hair one bit!!! This straightener is the only one that worked really well so far. I've been using it every day for a while now. My hair stays straight ALL day. It even added more shine, smoothness, softness,and even VOLUME to my hair! no other straightener has ever done that. I'm sure that there's better straighteners out there but this one works great and is at an affordable price. I would DEFINITLY recommend this straightener for ALL hair types. Personally, I prefer to use it when my hair's wet. I've learned thatit stays straight longer that way. As long as you straighten your hair in very thin layers from underneath, and work your way to the outside, it works great!! At the beginning, it took me about an hour to straighten my hair. After some practice, I got down to only 40 minutes. Now, it only takes me 20-30 minutes to straighten my hair. And I mean REALLY STRAIGHTEN it. I've heard many stories about Chi's breaking after a year, which of course means no warranty. I didn't want to waste money on something that wouldn't last, so I searched more until I found this flat iron. Many people that had/have Chi's said that this flat iron is better.



After using it for the first time, wow! My hair was very smooth, sleek, healthy-looking, and straight! (obviously)

I'm so glad I purchased this flat iron, I was sick of my old one damaging my hair and not straightening it, or keeping it pin-straight all day. This one doesn't damage my hair (always use heat defense before using), and it makes it look even healthier. It smooths all the frizz, and creates smooth, sleek, healthy looking straight hair.



I've only had to use this flat iron on setting 30 (30/50 x 450 degrees), so I use it at 270 degrees and it's able to fully straighten my hair and keep it straight all day, until the next wash. Never use higher heat than your hair needs! Before the Babyliss, I used Conair's $20 straighteners...for five years, actually. Those broke down once in a while, and when I got fed up with the static electricity that they put in my hair, I decided to invest in a more expensive brand--the Babyliss (which I found after thoroughly researching straighteners).



I definitely saw differences in the efficiency of each straightener. The Babyliss iron heats up VERY quickly, and retains the heat. Whereas I had to spend over 10 minutes (doing things in between waiting for the iron to reheat between swipes) straightening my hair imperfectly with the Conair brand, with the Babyliss I could straighten my hair in under 5...and yes, it was STRAIGHT. I also loved how it had a limited 4-year-warranty.



One of the cons of this iron is that it is so good at retaining heat that you have to be super careful. It is hard to hold onto the barrel when curling hair, and once I accidentally touched the plate a couple minutes after I had unplugged the appliance. It was painfully hot. Besides this, I would also like the Babyliss more if its shape was rounder, which allows, in my opinion, for nicer curls and flips. Check the customer images for the curls I made with the Babyliss, on my third attempt or so.



I would also be careful with handling the iron. It is not so sturdy. Mine actually broke to pieces in a check-in bag, so I used it for less than three weeks. It was good while it lasted. When it broke, I ordered a Le Angelique Pro, which is less expensive than the Babyliss and comes with a Lifetime Warranty, though it is not Nano Titanium or Ionic. I actually like my Le Angelique even more than this one, because it is less unbearably hot, it has a great round shape that makes for prettier curls, and I feel like it retains my hair's volume more. Perhaps I had set the Babyliss on too-high heat settings--my hair looked a bit flat when I straightened it.



Still, the Babyliss is a fantastic product that will make bad hair days history.

I love this straightener! I have had several others, including some professional models, that snagged my hair and caused it to break. This one didn't pull once! The plates are super smooth, and heat up quickly. I was worried that the plates are metal, because I've heard so much about ceramic, but I did a little reading and it seems that titanium is also good. After using it, this straightener did as good or better than ceramic units I've used--my hair was incredibly smooth and shiny. I used it for the first time before going out with a friend, and the first thing she said was "wow your hair looks great!"



I have thick wavy hair that is fairly difficult to straighten. I almost always use the highest setting on other flat irons, but on this one I was happy with one of the medium settings--it does get very, very hot on the higher settings! It was very easy to use though, especially with the narrow plates, and the shape of the casing makes it easy to flip hair around. I haven't tried curling with it yet, but I plan to!



Some folks have commented on a gap between the plates. There is a tiny gap of maybe 1mm, but unless you have very, VERY fine hair, it should be filled up (and then some) by the hair you are straightening. - Babyliss - Hair Straightener - Best Flat Iron - Long Plates
