Griffin Technology - microphone, ipod

I see some negative reviews here because the mic does not work with Skype. This is because inputing a mic into the iPod Touch headphone jack disables the speaker. I have to say it's not the mic fault, but rather the user who didn't research what the mic does. It is only for inputting audio into recording aps. If you want to use it as a phone rig, then you have to look at an adapter or a mic/headphone combo since you will lose the speaker output on the ipod. That said, I would like to say that this is an excellent mic. I'm am an old recording buff and have had tons of mics. I'm am very, very pleased with the audio this mic records. It sounds as clear and natural as condenser mics costing four or five times as much. I was really very surprised by its recording capabilities - as I mainly bought it to jot down little audio notes to myself, not thinking I'd be getting really nice fidelity along the way. The makers say they auditioned a bunch on condenser mic before settling on the one in the Thumbtack and I believe it. When used close to the speaker, it provides amazing sound for the price. Bravo guys for making such a cool-looking, good-sounding mic. Switcheasy ThumbTacks Microphone for iPod nano 4G, touch 2G (Black)

I bought this one and also the RapCap (also sold at Amazon) and was trying both out. They actually could make a nice combination of two small mics to carry for use with an iPod or iPhone. I have an iPod touch, and compared to something like the Mikey, these DO work and work well. However, this thumbtack one records as a very low level of sensitivity. It likely would work best for recording memos to yourself. If you want to record a talk by someone else and capture more sound in the room, the RapCap has a much greater sensitivity level (which matters a lot since I see no way on the iPod Touch itself to adjust sensitivity levels). So, the RapCap seems better for many uses, but this thumbtack one would be good for personal voice memos.

Thats a good idea below to try but I do not believe it advertises that it will work for that. This Mic is really easy to use, literally plug it in and it works! I believe it will also work with the iPhone 3G if you download the free iTalk app.

If you at all need a mic and want something that works well and is cool, this is it!

This is a great little thing. Does just what it says it does, and does it pretty well. I like the design. The thumb tac/push pin shape is clever and fun, and makes it easy to grip to plug in or unplug. I particularly appreciated the packaging--almost none. Also clever and very green.

I think the mic on the Chill Pill Rapcap is a little more sensitive. WAY too much packaging, though!!

I bought both. I'm sure I'll use both. I'd use this one, if i were dictating something at close range, where the extra sensitivity wouldn't matter (might actually be a deterrent). I'd make sure I had the other one plugged in, if I had to record at a distance.

If I had to choose (and they are so reasonably priced, I didn't feel I had to), I'd go with the rapcap for the better quality sound--eventhough the packaging really irritates me.

I was in need of a microphone in order to use tuner and recording apps available for my Touch 2G. After researching a number of options that were available I selected the ThumbTacks Mic because it was small and inexpensive. In short, the ThumbTack exceeded my expectations and I have since purchased others for family and friends and recommend it to anyone I know with a Touch 2G. As a musician (guitarist) it is great to have a tuner at my disposal by using the ThumbTacks Mic with my tuning app Cleartune. It's an outstanding tuner for basses, too! Additionally the mic provides surprising fidelity to my audio recordings of voice memos and musical ideas I perform on my nylon string or acoustic guitars.

I use this mic in a classroom setting and have had no problems with it. It's a traditional recorder, so don't expect it to work on Skype. And if you're going to be in a noisy room, guess what? You're going to record noise. The sound quality is great and because it's small, you'll hardly even notice it on your ipod at all. Totally worth it.

Easy to use, great sound quality, flat frequency response. I use this mic for acoustic measurements with the first generation iPhone (the only one to offer a flat frequency response thru its mic-input as all later models have a low pass filter) - Microphone - Ipod - Ipod Touch - Ipod Accessories
