Click here for more information I've owned and traded over a hundred high-quality knives over thirty years, most often custom-make and priced today at a bare minimum of $300. But it seems that factory produced knives are making great strides, with this model as an example.



My opinion, this is an excellent combination knife and tool for its purpose. Grind and steel are excellent. Liner lock is ideal for its function. LED is amazingly tiny and functional. Grip and finish details are nice. Plastic components are good material.



I have only one ironic criticism. The stainless alloy in the blade does not provide an adequate spark from the magnesium rod. A lower grade steel sparks far better. It's not a fundamental problem, just something the owner needs to know so they can carry a short piece of hacksaw blade or some other odd piece of steel to work the firestarter. For backpacking I used to bring 2 keylights, a survival knife and a magnesium bar. Now I am switching to one keylight and this SLP2 Pro only, plus one set of backup batteries. The folding knife, magnesium bar and whistle work great. The design is pretty impressive, lightweight and you can carry safely on your pocket. It's a must inside the tent at night.



I ordered first the SL3, but then I realized that for some more bucks I could have the SLP2 with integrated LED light and save some more space/weight in the backpack. I returned the SL3 to Amazon which refunded me in full except the handling fee since the product was not defective.

Bought one of these and struck the flint twice and it broke off. Returned the knife and got another, just in case it was some sort of fluke to have it break so easily. The second knife flint did the exact same thing and I knew then that I couldn't trust the quality of this item to help save my life.



Better off with a good quality knife, a Swedish Steel and a seperate whistle... Don't forget means to make a shelter and acquire water, so as to fulfill the first needs to satisfy the rule of 3s (minutes without oxygen/hours of exposure/days without water/weeks without food). Some would argue that it should be a rule of 4s, but you get the point...

This is the second one of these that I have bought, I first bought the same knife in the black finish to give to a friend. I liked it so much I bought one for myself! It is a little wider than a "normal" pocket folding knife but it has more to it than a regular knife too. The blade comes to you already sharpened, the flashlight is already good to go and the whistle is LOUD!! I haven't had any problems with the flashlight falling out, the O-Ring that keeps it in place is really tight, takes a bit of effort to push in and take out which isn't a bad thing and if it were to wear out you should be able to find a replacement without a problem. I have used the fire starter a couple of times and the sparks that come off it (if you do it right) would definitely help with lighting a fire so don't forget to pack this when you go camping! It comes in a small metal box with the foam cut out on the inside for you to store it, nice presentation if you wanted to purchase this as a gift as I originally did.



Overall, I feel that this was a good purchase. Nice knife, good presentation, great value for the money.

I've got this knife to attach to my PFD which I ware while Kayaking, it small, fits in all the right places, has a whistle to alert others, a strong light for signaling and fire starter. Click here for more information This sharpener works extremely well on all my knives and is very easy to use. It does not require that you maintain a twenty degree angle - it does it for you. Also it doesn't require oil or water. You just swipe the blade through a few times and that's it. It's truly perfect.

I knew that my sharpening steel skills were not ideal. I was able to get a sharp blade but it didn't seem to hold very long. When I saw that Wusthof had a sharpener, I knew it would be worth having. Already knowing the quality of their products, I was certain this would be the same.



After passing my knives through a few times, the sharpness was back. No fuss, no muss. Easy to hold when placed on the counter and no angle to figure out.



The only down side is that there are no instructions or advice included. I don't know if this should be used every time I want to sharpen my knives or just occasionally. Also, I question whether I am sharpening my scissors correctly since I had to figure it out on my own. Perhaps the Wusthof Web site has more information. Otherwise, it is great.

I have been using honing stone and I am also proud for being able to sharpen all my knives with the stone (except for the serrated ones). Then I gave this thing a try and wow ! it works, consistently and with ease. When using a honing stone, it is hard to maintain the correct edge angle, and this device takes the guess work out. A friend of mine thinks his buck knife is sharp until he reset the edge with Wustof's stage 1 carbide edger and then hone it with the stage 2 ceramic sharpener. Then he was surprised with how his "new" knife shred paper like razor. Then we tried with the scissors and learned that the specially shaped slot should prevent one from inserting the scissors in a wrong way (right handed vs. left handed scissors). Quality is great. Comes with non-slip padding on the grip as well as several other sides so you can grip it and hold in down on the counter top in several positions/ways steadily.



Downside is that it is a bit pricey. There are cheaper ones out there which I believe would work similarly but would probably lack the little quality touches here and there.

While sharpening the first knife on this, one of the ceramic rods began to rotate. By the second knife it was really spinning around, and squeaking. I don't think this is supposed to happen - for one, it would asymmetrically hone the blade. But I don't know for sure, because Wüsthof didn't reply to my email question about it.



Well, that problem could be fixed with a bit of superglue. But I really shouldn't have to repair things right out of the box. And something with no moving parts (ignoring the floating rod in the scissor sharpener) should be easily made solid.



On the other hand, it seems to work now. My (previously incredibly dull) knives have a new lease on life, and seem moderately sharp. I haven't extensively used any other sharpener (my knives can attest to that), so I don't know how it compares.

you wanna be a hotshot, get a whetstone and go to culinary academy. BUT, if you want a simple, durable, inexpensive, very effective knife sharpener, bingo! i advise against some 20 lb., overly complex, electric thigamajig. REMEMBER...with many sharpeners, manual, electric, whatever, including this one, they have a coarse slot and a fine slot. use coarse only when your knives are REALLY dull; it removes a lot of metal and restores the edge, but overuse will result in your hatori santuko or sabatier becoming an icepick. use the fine slot mostly. and sharpening steels look and sound cool, but they don't sharpen...they remove tiny imperfections and burrs as a final step. love this product.

How much needs to be said about a knife sharpener? This one works exceptionally well, is easy to hold and control while in use, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It probably isn't an item you'll find in a professional kitchen, it's very well suited for your kitchen. REMEMEMBER: A DULL KNIFE IS A DANGEROUS THING!

I just needed some help on my knives. I've been using only a steel on my knives for the past few years and they were getting a bit dull. They were still cutting but I couldn't feel the edge by running my fingers across the edge. After a few minutes with each knife the edges on them are very good again. I manage a grocery store and I use the meat department manager's knives as my standard. This sharpener gets very close when comparing the feel of his knives to mines.

I doubt if this is the best thing for sharpening knives, but it's now part of my cooking routine. The old sharpening stone I used never got results like the Wusthof sharpener. I find the scissors sharpener somewhat difficult to use, but the coarse and fine knife sharpeners work well. About 20 - 30 strokes through each (coarse and fine) gives me a pretty sharp knife. Click here for more information I started out looking for a fishing knife to put in my new kayak. I was also looking for a safety tool to help free me from my vehicle if it ever went into the drink. I frequently drive over a bridge that goes 26 miles over water and I've seen too many vehicles fished out of the lake. This knife turned out to be the perfect combo.



A small disk inserted into the top of the blade near where it meets the handle makes it very easy to open, even when your hands are wet and slippery. The combo of half serrated and half sharpened edge makes it good for cleaning fish, cutting rope or other utility uses. The windshield shattering metal nib is on the butt of the handle and the seat belt cutter is right next to it. You can use both without having to open or turn the knife, a big plus in an emergency. It also has a very strong and long clip firmly attached to the handle. This is tight enough to slip onto the waist of your jeans or into a life vest pocket if you don't wear a belt. The knife is heavy enough to add some heft to your stroke should you ever have to break a windshield underwater. The metal looks similar to what might be used on one of their pistols and it is assembled with numerous star headed screws rather than rivets. You should be able to tighten or clean it as needed. Good purchase...patting myself on the back as I write!

I got this knife because it has the seatbelt cutter and window breaking tip to have as an all-around emergency and daily folding knife. This knife has good weight and balance. The handle fits perfectly in my hand and feels comfortable. This is my first Smith & Wesson knife and I'd buy another one based on the quality of this one.

I recently purchased this knife and was amazed at the wonderful quality for so cheap. The blade lock-up is VERY tight absolutly no wiggle what-so-ever. The deployment is quite slow but with some wrist flick it speeds up the process some. It is rather heavy at 5.7 ounces but it is a tough knife. It has the flow-through design so mud and water can flow on through. The clip is tip down non-movable, however is sits very deeply in the pocket. The steel liner is not skeletonized but it is attached with adjustable screws to disassemble the knife if necessary. Out of the box the blade needs quite the touching up on its edge, for it is rather dull. There is a small thumb ramp, but no grooves to catch your thumb, however the underneath hold the index finger superbly. The handle itself is very ergonomic and just wants to be held.

Its a good knife, if you aren't going to be using it as a rescuer. I kept it in the pocket of my turnout gear, but had to take it out. The steel isn't stainless so if it gets water on it, rust spots apear almost instantly. Also, the steel of the blade it soft enought that when I used it to try and tighten up a screw (Yes I know I should have used a screw driver, but on the fire ground you use what you have) the blade chipped all along its lengh. Its gotten moved to my car so I can use it if I have to get out, but its just not tough enough to use to help others. Bottom line - if you're going to be using a knife day-to-day, find something with a hard, stainless steel blade.

Got this to replace my Smith & Wesson work knife thinking that the glass breaker and the seat belt cutter would be a great addition. The blade itself comes very sharp and I'm pleased with that, though the profile is a bit larger than I'm used to. The liner lock is solid, like the other knife I had. The weight is good and I'm sure the glass breaker would work fine, but the safety cutter does NOT work. I work for a company that makes car seats and we have seat belt material sitting around, the safety cutter will not cut it, won't cut rope, can't cut paper, I see no applicable use for the safety cutter, in fact I feel that if you tried to use the safety cutter in an emergency situation it would do more harm than good because you would be waisting a lot of time trying to make it work instead of just turning the knife around and using the blade.



Maybe I got a defective blade, I don't know, I'm going to contact smith & wesson and if nothing happens there, I'm giong to take the knife apart and try to sharpen the safety cutter.



And if that doesn't work, I'll just use it as a regular knife until I can upgrade.

What prompted me to look at "First Responder Knives" was my wife's wish for me to purchase her one of those "Emergency Hammers" that can break the window and cut a seatbelt so you can get out of a wreck. Rather than get her something that might not ever be used, or be difficult to swing in a damaged and wrecked car, I thought the ideal solution would be a First Responder Knife. The SWFRS has a clip which can be clipped to a visor within reach if the car rolls, and will hold it in place. It can be held firmly in her hand (it is slightly small for me, since I have large hands, but still can be held comfortably and securely in mine.) A simple swing and it will shatter an automotive glass window with the strong metal tip. The seatbelt cutter appears to be easy to use and very sharp. The knife blade is large and locks into place firmly. My wife can open the knife with her thumb one handed quite easily too, and the lock mechanism (a liner lock) works well and again is easy for her to use, and she has no worries of the blade closing on her fingers. From my point of view I really like this knife (we bought two, one for each car). It is very well made, and appears that it could be totally disassembled with torx bits and hex wrenches. The knife blade opens smoothly with a snap role of my thumb, and locks into place and feels like a solid piece of steel. The pocket clip works well, and is bent over in such a way that pocketing it should not loosen the screws. As for the size, it fits my hand fairly well, and like one of the reviews stated "it begs to be held." The black portion, the stock, appears to be zytex. The blade is sharp too. It is very well designed. If Smith and Wesson is reading this, glow in the dark plastic stocks would be an even nicer touch.



The only thing I do not like about the knife is the serrated edge. If used, it should keep its edge for a long time, except serrated edges cannot be sharpened easily. However, this knife is better made than knives I have paid $80 for. I highly recommend this product. Click here for more information This sharpener does a good job and, while not the over $300 professional quality, it is excellent for the everyday chef. Great price and did very well with my knives in developing a nice edge. Use the fine section of the sharpener for keeping your knives very sharp. Rarely will you use the coarse part. It's not necessary unless you cut concrete!

This was chosen because of other reviews. I agree with the determination that this is a fine product. I immediately sharpened an older and dull butcher knife. It required about 10 draws through the course and 4 through the fine to put an extremely sharp edge on the knife. Great results for a good price!

Great price for how well it works. If you don't have practice using a steel, then this is a great alternative. Like other reviews, use the fine slot for every day honing. You should check your knife before every use. It doesn't take long and you'll keep it sharper longer. You shouldn't use a knife that isn't sharp. It isn't safe. The sharpener doesn't put a professional edge on your knife, but it does put a consistently even one. This helps the edge last longer. The handle is comfortable and the bottom is made from silicon/rubber that keeps it from sliding. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I would prefer the angle of the sharpening slot to be at a full 90 degrees. It doesn't take any getting used to, however. That's just my preference.

Wow! I sharpened two knives that were my husband's before we were married (about 25 years old). They had been abused and never were sharpened unless he used his tool sharpener. Several passes restored the blade and even the tip was so sharp that I cut my finger accidentally. Great product and I'll purchase as a gift for my sister's cabin (knives there are awful). I don't think you'll be disappointed if you purchase this.

I bought this thinking it would be a good knife sharpener. It is not. After just three knives the carbide inserts were already not working as well. As another reviewer mentioned the ceramic portion started turning and did not do its job correctly. I would not waste money on this item.

When we first got our Wusthof knives, I could slice paper with them; but after several years of use, not so much. This well made little kitchen gadget changed all of that. By the time I had finished with this little gem, every knife in our block would slice paper again. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

This sharpened my Wustoff carving knife really well. It is super easy to use - just put the blade into the slot, pull firmly towards you, pull knife out and repeat.



There are 2 sharpening slots - the primary one, and another softer one that gives a polished, clean sharpening. For smaller jobs, you can just used the second.



My knife was getting quite dull, and after using this, i could run the blade across a piece of paper and it cut beautifully. After one day of heavy food prep, though, the knife needed re-sharpening. This is my only complaint. It is possible we need to sharpen the blade more, but we had run it through the sharpener a number of times so it should have lasted.

Click here for more information I ordered this product and it came promptly but with slight defects on the blade. When I mentioned this to the seller, they promptly fixed this. This is a highly reliable seller.



As an amateur knife collector and also a poor college student, I really know my cheap knives, and this is easily one of the best nonbrand knives I have ever come across. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" but at the same time the same 20 dollars could get you a knife worth 5 dollars or a knife worth 50 dollars. In this case I rate this knife with the cost in mind, so keep in mind that I am not suggesting this knife to be of comparable to a CRKT or a Kershaw. I will separately review the components of this knife.



blade (5/5) : drop point blade (even though it looks like a spear point, the grind starts above the middle of the blade) with a partial swage on the back side. It has a combo edge, with a good serrated:smooth ratio, many knives have over half the blade serrated, which is silly in my opinion. Riccasso present for increased strength, choil also present. The blade appears to be made out of 440A stainless steel, or steel of similar hardness, which is pretty much low grade carbon steel with mediocre edge retention. But any knife made out of 440C steel is at minimum 40 dollars. Overall for the price the blade is as good is it can get.



Handle (5/5): Scales present for better grip, comfortable to hold. I am a big fan of the quillions on the blade, acting as a finger guard and a thumb rise. Overall rivet construction, with star screws, I was able to tighten it with a hex wrench, which reduced the blade play.



Action (4.5/5): The fingerguard on the blade acts as a speed tab, and flipping that allows the blade to spring open. Fast deployment, and easy to use. The thumb stud, however, is difficult to use, and located too close to the handle to be able to open with, so just use the speed tab instead.



Lock-up (3/5): Only part of this knife I would suggest improvement on. It locks up fine, and I test all my knives as soon as I get them by stabbing a 1/4" wood panel of red oak to make sure the lock will not fail. At first it would fail, but upon applying some lubricant to the pivot and also loosening and then tightening the pivot, the lock would be fine. However the grooves on the lock stick out too far and I discovered that if you torque your knife in a specific way, your fingers can catch on the group and cause the lock to fail. But you do have to try hard to do that, it should not fail under normal circumstances. Also, I have found that whenever the lock has failed, the finger guards catch on your finger, preventing the blade from striking your fingers.



Clip (4/5): clip and lock-up are two of the most important things to me, one being availability and the other being reliability after deployment. That being said, I spent a lot of time examining this clip. The clip on this knife is secured by a single star screw, and an indent into the handle holds the knife into place. I have had bad experiences with clips coming loose and eventually falling off, even with big name companies like Gerber, but this clip seems extremely secure and so far has not even wobbled in the slightest. The clip is mounted on the butt-end of the knife as opposed to the pivot end, which I am a huge fan of. This allows for quick deployment from the carry position, as when it is stuck in your pocket, reaching your hand in to retrieve the knife allows your hand to be in the right position automatically.





Overall: 5/5 considering the price, I have no problems at all recommending the knife. It is worth at least 40 dollars, and for 13 dollars it is a steal. In the two weeks I have owned it, I have subjected it to at least 2 months of abuse. As an EMT, I carry a CRKT as my main knife, but also carry this knife for use on things that I would not subject my CRKT to. It has been covered in blood, urine, diesel fuel, and I have used it to pry stuff, open cans, cut IV tubing, reshape splints, and other abusive stuff, and none of it has permanently damaged it at all. After getting it, I spent 20 minutes sharpening it and reshaping the bevel, but from then on 30 seconds with an arkansas stone every few days keeps it at shaving-ability sharpness.



Bottom line: I highly recommend this knife. It is reliable as long as you keep in mind to be careful about the lock. Everything else is exceptional considering the 13 dollars you pay. I know I would pay willing to pay 30 for it.

I have a thing for knives. It borders on obsession. So it was odd for me to buy a $13 knife (shipping included). I like nice ones.



But this one leapt out at me for some reason, and recently I've been abusing my $125 Benchmade knife more than I wanted to. So I figured I'd give it a try.



It's no Benchmade, but honestly... it's a great knife for the price. I will carry this thing and use it like knives aren't supposed to be used - I'll pry with it, open cans, beat on stuff.



I've had other impulse purchase cheap knives I've gotten from the welding supply store, and they felt like crap at the time, and proved themselves very quickly to be such. This knife is much tighter, and just feels better.

Click here for more information This seems like a good knife, especially at the price. I've not been pounding on it with a hammer, or using it to chisel marble, but the constrction seems sound, the blade well mounted and of high quality, the grip easy on the hand, and the mechanism locks positively and well.



Reflecting upon another review, it is possible that a smaller hand might find the thumb-knurl on the small side and difficult to open, for lack of leverage and inadequate purchase. This is only a guess, but may be a matter of consideration for others. As already noted, I find the blade easy to open and the lock mechanism tight and solid.



One other point of approval -- the belt-clip is very solid, tight and well-mounted. Many other manufacturers seem to go cheap on the clip, which makes carrying the knife a problem after a while. The clip loosens up and the knife will easily fall off the belt if one is in an awkward position or brushing past things. This guy looks like it will stay on the belt long after the belt itself has fallen away. This, for me, is another positive.

The price is really good, but there are reasons why the price is so cheap. I've had the knife for three months and there have been some problems. The biggest problem is the joint, the joint is made of low quality plastic that will become very flimsy in a short amount of time. The other problem that isn't as big of a deal is the liner lock, the liner lock is weak and doesn't feel good when being used. Overall the best thing about the knife is the price, if that's the only reason you want the knife you will be satisfied. If you want a knife that you plan on using for more than just light labor this isn't the knife for you, you might want to try Gerber Knives.

I'd never had one of these liner lock knives before & when I saw this one for the price on here while researching the Victorinox knife I also purchased (Farmer's pocketknife, excellent!) I figured I'd try it, what could another letter opener hurt.



Well, it hurt me! First time I opened the blade it didn't lock and I didn't realize it and closed the serrated part a little on my finger like an idiot. Yes, it's very sharp! After playing with it some more, the lock seemed so stiff that I was thinking of returning it, there was no way it could be operated one-handed.



However, playing with it some more, I tried flicking the blade open. I was able to do this easily even with it fully closed (another customer mentions flicking it open from a partially opened position, but I've had good luck doing it with the knife fully closed.). The blade easily locked! I did this a few more times just to hear the nice locking sound it made. But then I noticed, I was able to easily open and lock the blade with one hand. I suppose the flicking sped up a breaking-in process that a few more two-handed openings would have done.



Umm, I guess I should add, if you're going to try flicking the blade open MAKE SURE YOU CAN HANG ONTO THE KNIFE. I'm a big guy with big hands and nobody was in the room with me; I wouldn't make a habit of opening a knife this way, because it only has to go wrong once when you get careless to really be a bad thing. And I'm going to be closing it with two hands just to be safe.



So now I'm fully pleased with the knife. Easy one-hand open and lock. It's got a really well-machined appearance and feel to it, seems to be well-made in every area. Feel's good in the hand, I don't think it'll get away from you any while you're cutting or sawing. It's very light, too, I could slip it in a pocket and forget it.



Overall, for this price and quality, I can only recommend it. If you're a nOOb like me to these kinds of knives however, this is no toy, it will cut you if you're a moron. So be careful, and enjoy this incredibly cheap, amazing little piece of hardware.

It's the best ten dollar knife I've ever bought.



I wasn't expecting much. I read the reviews and said to myself, "I know this is a waste of money but why the hell not?" I'm glad I did.



I'm kind of a knife nut. I've been one since I was a kid and that was a lonnnnngggg time ago. Over the years I have collected dozens of knives and I've used all of them for various tasks around the house, on the job and while camping or travelling. I have several big knives from Swamp Rat, Becker and SOG, a few martial arts knives from Cold Steel, hunting knives from Lakota, Puma, Fallkniven and Buck and boxes full of folding knives from Victorinox, Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw, Al Mar, Benchmade, Gerber and numerous others. A few purchases were junk--like a CRKT folder that refuses to take an edge no matter how much I hone it. A few were disappointments--like an Ontario/RAT military/survival knife that cost a hundred bucks and the handles fit like a three buck dimestore toy. A few were surprises--like the Byrd knives made in China and imported by Spyderco.



This S&W was one of the surprises.



It's made in China by Taylor Cutlery. It's badged as Smith & Wesson but S&W doesn't really make it and probably has nothing to do with the design, choice of materials or anything else. It's a cheap knife that is made to be sold and should be junk. But it's not.



This is not the sharpest knife I've ever bought but it can be sharpened to a good utility edge. The serrations are good for utility purposes as well and they can be touched up nicely with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's not the prettiest knife I've ever bought but I bought it as a "beater" so looks are not important. The tanto-point blade has a good, even grind and the thickness of the blade makes for a pretty strong utility knife overall. The clip is a bit on the flimsy side but it holds the knife inside the pocket well suspended. The aluminum handles have good gripping surfaces that helps to prevent your hand slipping when wet. Opening and closing is smooth and easy to perform one handed. Really, it's a knife that just seems to fulfill the purpose of being a folding knife.



The best part is that it's a ten buck knife.



I don't expect this knife to last for decades. I won't be passing it down to future generations. It's going to be rode hard and put up wet and abused and neglected. It will get a sharpening when dull and an oiling when the joint is sluggish but it's not going to get the treatment I give to my expensive knives. I'll use it for dirty jobs and if it gets lost in the process, I will not feel too much pain. It's just a ten buck knife.



EDIT 04/07/2010: What they say about the lock is true. It wears pretty quickly, turning this folder into a fixed blade until you can find a screwdriver or other tool to pry the lock out of the way and close it. About the same quality lock mechanism as I've seen in some $40 Chinese Gerbers. It quickly and easily makes a good convex edge on most blades, and it only took me a few minutes to get the hang of it. I profiled and sharpened three kitchen knives in five minutes, and a brush axe in ten minutes. The brush axe took more time both because the new edge profile was a lot different, and because it took me some practice to deal with the curving blade.



Pros

- It takes me an easy 35sec to change a belt.

- The belts are lasting well.

- It takes about 5 passes each side w/medium belt to put a convex edge on a typical blade.

- It takes 1-2 passes each side w/fine belt to sharpen a typical blade.

- Works for most any blade, even my Benchmade folding knife with thumbstud.

- Sharpens hard knives.



Cons

- The instructions are not great. You may round the tip or ruin a blade's temper if you follow them exactly.

- It would be easier to draw through true if the guide extended to either side 1/2", and was solid above the belt.

- Will only sharpen the flat side of a serrated blade. You'll need something like a tapering round sharpener to get the other side.

- The thumbstud on a folding knife may get in the way unless it is near the handle.

- The fine belt is generally good, but sometimes I want finer. I searched online, but couldn't find any.

- There is no 15deg knife guide.

- The WSKTS quickly gets hot; you're not supposed to use it for more than 20min.



Tips

- Practice drawing the blade through with the motor off.

- As you draw through, change the angle of the blade to keep the belt-to-edge contact uniform.

- The belt will conform to the knife tip as you draw it though, which will round the tip of the knife. I avoid this by drawing through the same, but turning off the motor just as the tip of the knife reaches the belt.

- During the initial edge re-profiling, be careful that the knife doesn't get too hot, which will ruin the temper. I worked with three knifes at a time to avoid this.

- I alternate sides every pass, both to help keep the edge symmetric, and to minimize the number of passes.

- I only use the downward side of the belt; this seems safer and perhaps the belt will last longer.

- For a curving blade like a brush axe, I work in sections, being careful to vary and feather the sections each pass.

I bought this device yesterday, and today about 20 of my kitchen knives are razor sharp. With a machine shop background, I was familiar with small "3 wheel belt sanders" - we used to sharpen shop tools with them 40 years ago! Work sharp has essentially crossed a mini - belt sander with a mini electric chainsaw power head and "Walla" - the Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener!!! Well built, and with angle guides to make sharpening a snap, it is a great little tool. One big advantage of this sharpener (over stones, wheels and other "hard" sharpeners) is that the belt will FLEX. That allows for contouring to a blade, and also prevents grinding off excessive metal. With three grades of abrasive belts, there is wide versatility for sharpening, grinding and honing. The belts seem to be holding up very well, and can be swapped out in just a few seconds. Also of interest to me is that the "belt head" can be rotated to several positions - allowing for standard sharpening, compact storage, and also use as a mini finishing / deburring tool! Quite ingenious.

As a former chef, restaurateur and food service professional, I've had a life-long interest in sharp knives. It took me years to master a good set of oil stones and no machine has come close to replacing them for me. Then along comes the Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener.



For my first trial, not wanting to risk a good knife to a machine, I selected an old abused chef's knife and in short order returned it to excellent working order using the Work Sharp! Click here for more information I have Chicago Cutlery knives. First I used the Steel that came with the knives. After about 3 years, the knives would not sharpen very well. Then I got a "set" that used 4 ceramic rods to sharpen the knives. They did a very good job, but it was a LOT of work. After using that set for about 5 years, I tried a real "cheapy" electric sharpener and returned it after one use. It just did not sharpen. -- Back to the rods. I finally decided to give the 300W a try. It works just great. The knives get much sharper than any other method I have tried and they stay sharp much longer. For my purposes, this is an excellent sharpener.

Granted, this isn't the most expensive thing in the world, but I was looking for better results more quickly than I could achieve with a manual sharpener. As the company's website claims you can have sharper than new edges, I decided to put that boast to the test with my set of brand new Henckels. Not only was the process tedious and quite demanding of technique, but I never got edges as good as factory (which were, admittedly, near razor sharp to begin with.)

The magnetic guides work OK close to the bolster, but as the blade narrows and your hand is farther from the guide, it becomes very difficult to maintain alignment. On curved blades, you have to bring the handle up carefully during the stroke while unable to see the exact portion of the blade you are sharpening. It must be done by sound and not sight. Also, while inserting the blade into the sharpener, care must be taken for exact alignment or the diamonds will grab and kick out the blade somewhat. I never detected any damage, but it doesn't inspire confidence.

I imagine that while the more expensive models with wheel type sharpeners and a different style of guide might work much better, I'm just not going to pay $100 for a knife sharpener. I will stick with my manual diamond hone. I returned the 300W.

Unfortunately, I paid twice the www.Amazon.com price from a local store several years ago, and I must say it is one of the few kitchen appliances I have been disappointed with. It takes a long time to get all the knives honed to the angles of this sharpener. Then keeping them sharp seems to take a long time and they never seem to get as sharp as one would expect. The motor heats up quite easily after a few knives and begins to smell like it is overheating. I think the product has always been over-rated. I might buy it at this price but a simple non electric works just as well at less money.

I don't normally write reviews, but this time I will as I think it might help others who have been searching for a decent and reasonably-priced sharpener. Four months ago I had about 14 utility and steak knives sharpened by an upscale store in Santa Monica. The price? $35.00. Now, I got the 300W for $34.88 all in. I sharpened the knives according to the instructions, and they came out sharper than the "professional" store job!

After investigating knife steels, oil stones, water stones,and various gadgets this sharpening device is truly a "Chef's Choice". It is easy to use, requiring only a light touch. It does a great job in sharpening your knives and does not take a long time. My Henkels and Sabatiers have nice sharp honed edges. Now I think I need to buy a new cutting board.....

Several reviewers have complained that it takes a long time to sharpen knives with this gadget. Perhaps, but compared to using a whetstone, the Chef's Choice 300W is blazingly fast. Properly done, sharpening knives does take time.



It is vital to break in knives exactly as described in the literature that accompanies the sharpener. Other reviewers have said that the sharpener does not perform well on hard knives, but I am using it on hard stainless steel knives and getting a good, sharp, long-lasting edge.

I have been pleased so far with the sharpness of my knives after sharpening them with this sharpener. My only complaint is that sometimes it's hard to get the knife into the running grinder without nicking the blade on the vibrating sharpening plates. This is a good quality item.

This sharpener does not do the job as easily as stated by the info on the site. It takes to long to sharpen the knives. Matter of fact I still have not been able to put a razor sharp blade on any of my knives. I would not purchase this sharpener.

I just received it, read the instructions and then sharpened six knives in about 15 minutes. The first sharpening takes longer because the knife edge must be reground to match the sharpener. I have another Chef's Choice with three stage sharpening which adds a grinding wheel and makes the first sharpening go very fast. It is over 10 years old and is still going strong. I rarely use the grinding wheel so decided this version is more practical and much less expensive. Very tough and has withstood ALL the abuse i have put it through like beating nails in, useing it as a pry bar, use under water in snow and with various other corosive materials, skining cable, a saw, as a hammer, screwdriver, and all kinds of things a knife shouldnt be used for. It could also make a good self defence knife. I likr the handle because it fits my hand and cant be pulled out of my grip easily. It is a liner lock and the lock works good never failed for me yet. The blade also stays sharp fairly well. I have owned it for at least a year and a half now. A verry good investment of your money. I hope this was helpfull and this knife lasts for you.

This knife, when i got it was in a small box, but was an enormous knife, much bigger than i had expected, (9.5 inches when unfolded) and it surprised me. Quite a nice knife, i'm told the impression you get is you can skin a moose or small bear with it. I use it primarily for camping and feeding horses, but also, in its 'off time' (when i'm not backpacking), for a letter opener. It holds its sharpness well, and does not dull too easy.



One of the things you have to watch for, on mine, it has a false lock ( it gives a click when it opens before the blade is secularly locked in place to cut), so when you open it, you either have to open it with speed to get it to lock, or double-check that it is locked. i have on numerous times thought it was locked, just by feel, but ended up almost getting a finger caught.

i ordered it on the 28th, it came from Massachusetts to northern arkansas, in december, on the 31st. on time.

There must be two versions of this knife because most of the reviews are very good and imply that the knife is very inexpensive for the high level of its quality, but some are pretty bad based upon the low level of quality. My experience is that the quality is pretty low, but then, I got what I paid for. I also think the poor quality of this knife may take a little time to become apparent, but here are my problems with it after several days of ownership:

* The knife is stylish but all of the edges on the laminated metal and plastic parts of the handle have sharp edges such that you can actually give yourself small cuts by letting the handle slip against your fingers or by gripping the handle too tightly in the wrong places. I was able to correct this with a small Dremel grinding drum. It took about 15 minutes to get the handle edges partially rounded and smooth.

* I decided that I did not need the clip which is held on by 3 hex screws. Upon making sure I had a tight fit of the hex wrench in the screw head, I started to turn the screw with very mild torque and immediately stripped the hex head. I tried the next screw and got the same result. I do not know of what metal these screws are made, but it is so soft that the screws cannot be removed. I have never run across a metal this soft being used for screws. They are junk.

* Initially the blade was very difficult to flip open even with the use of the thumb push. This was solved by just a little oil and working it back and forth about 20 times.

* About 1 ½ days later the blade began to wobble at its connection with the handle. This situation deteriorated to the point that the knife was a danger to its user. The loose blade was caused by 2 hex screws that had loosened, one on each side of the handle. Given my previous experience with the soft metal hex screws, I almost decided to send it back to Amazon as junk. However, these hex screws were almost twice as big as the ones that immediately stripped. Using all possible caution I was able to tighten these screws to eliminate the wobble without stripping the screws.

* When I first got the knife, the blade was dull. I sharpened it as best I could, but once again the "stainless steel" was too soft to hold a decent edge. My test for sharpness is to hold a piece of paper in one hand while slowly slicing the paper on its edge. The blade was able to do this 4 times. I tried to do this again and the paper could no longer be sliced but it would tear. I tried several more times and the paper continued to be torn. I have never seen a knife go dull so rapidly. As another test of the blade, I put a small drop of water on it and let it sit until the water evaporated (about 25 minutes). When I returned there was a spot on the blade where the water was. I tried to rub it off with my thumb, and then tried a small amount of alcohol and then a small amount of soapy water. The stain would not come off. I imagine stainless steel polish could work but I have not tried that yet. So, I have a knife that will not stay sharp that is made from stainable stainless steel.

The final lesson is that I got a $6 knife for $12, but it looks like it is worth quite a bit more. In today's world spin, image and perception all seem to trump reality. I suspect some of these newer points of view may have leaked into some of the Amazon product reviews because based upon the Amazon pictures and reviews, I would have paid more. Click here for more information My knife just arrived today, and I am very impressed. It has a good weight in the hand without feeling heavy, and without feeling too light and cheap. The construction is rock solid and feels like it can take a serious beating without showing any wear. I have large hands, and the grip is comfortable and unlikely to slip. The liner lock is feels very sturdy and the knife opens quickly and smoothly with a flick of the thumb. It doesn't lock when closed, which would be nice, but that's really not an issue. It fits nicely in the pocket too. With the knife in my pocket and clipped to the pocket edge, it doesn't feel to bulky or get in my way.



This is an excellent knife, especially at such a low price.

Great knife, belt cutter and hammer included! Real help for hobby too, not only for those who intended to dive to save somebody from sank vehicle. First off, what's not in the description and is hard to make out from the picture is that this knife has an emergency glass breaker on the butt end of the handle- a good extra feature considering it's being owned with emergency use in mind.



This is an excellent knife; very smooth blade motion, locks into place without jiggling, very sharp blade and point- very. Pant/belt clip is very well attached/tight- you won't have to worry about this falling loose, its almost idiot-proof. Tanto design gives very solid feel along with strong, solid spine. Just received this knife, speedy shipping from seller. Knife is light and feels balanced in hand. Smooth opening (non-assisted) and solid locking mechanism. Blade wasn't very sharp but came up nicely once on the stone. Serrated portion was fine though. This unit will be kept in my truck's emergency kit so it will not be an EDC.

I ordered the knife while in Afghanistan to have as an everyday pocket knife and as a last option weapon. The knife is built well and i like the design and the size. It's also quick and easy to open with one hand. The only complaint I have is it's not very sharp. The drop from the point to the angle is pretty dull and the rest of the blade is decently sharp. It takes a few strokes to cut through simple things but it gets the job done. It could easily be sharpened to your liking. I would get the blade again especialy for this price.

For the price, you cannot beat this knife for utility. It has a sharp, nice-sized blade, a very grip-able handle, opens reasonably well and locks securely. I use it to carry while on my motorcycle. A good knife goes a long way when you're on a bike. The serrations allow you to easily cut thru materials a straight edge might have trouble with, the tanto-shaped blade can double as a straight screwdriver (not recommended) and the glass punch can double as a hammer if needed...the seatbelt cutter is just a bonus.

It is a great knife, comes out of the box sharp. Has glass breaker and seat belt cutter, hope never need to use them but glad to have them at hand. The texture of grip is really nice when cutting. When hold in hand if were to use glass breaker had a nice spot on top for your thumb. Fits great in pocket, nice low profile. The knife is a litter bigger than expected, even seeing the dimensions being correct, still was bigger than i guess i suspected. But would rather think knife was little to big than to small. GREAT PRODUCT!

this is my second s&w knife and i am very happy. i'm going overseas soon doing convoys and i wanted a multipurpose knife that i can count on and i found that in this knife. the blade and point are practically razor sharp and the serrated portion is big enough to work but doesn't dominate the whole blade. i tested the seat belt cutter on some zip ties and a thick canvas strap and it performed up to par. it also is out of the way enough that it doesn't effect the grip. i have yet to use the glass breaker but i'm look for any reason to. it seems solid and it a big part of the handle. the rubber grip feels secure and not cheap that is will have a negative affect on your grasp. for not even $30 with shipping and handling what are you really risking? if you use is for a year and loose it or break it (which doesn't seems likely) you should have gotten your use out of it. i'm happy, secure and confident in my purchase- you should be too. - Emergency - Knife - Pocket Knife - Rescue Knife

Click here for more information I have hundreds of tactical folders to compare this knife to and it stands up superbly. It's build quality is outstanding, opens quickly and easily, quality of the steel is adequate, the blade shape is attractive and useful, the grip is comfortable and much improved over earlier version (they had sand paper, current version has thin rubber inserts), and Kershaw's service and support is perfect.

In my duty use in the military, I have used Blurs for several years and they always impress. For $55 you should buy several and give them as heirloom gifts. Other knives with these features and opening speed, including automatics like Microtech and ProTech, will cost three times as much. A great knife that will last forever with care.

It took me a minute to understand the right way to open this knife, it's not like the Chive or Leek. Once I did, OH YEAH; just push straight forward with your thumb and this thing is Black Lightning. The grip is such that you could hold onto the knife if it was covered in grease. I love all of Ken Onion's designs but this is the best one yet from Kershaw.

Fun, cool, outstanding, fast, well built, ok ok I get it on with the review.

Best Tactical folder I own. here's why

Upside;

1. Fastest assisted opener I've seen. A little thumb pressure on the really well crafted thumb studs and "smack". Opens in a "blur".

2. Blade stregth is superb. Arrives sharp, stays sharp, and cuts with ease.

3. Perfect size. Extremely comfertable in the hand.

4. The grip is very good. An almost soft rubbery silicone grip tape along the outside will not allow you to let go.

5. Pre drilled holes for tip up or tip down carry.

6. If you get the Blur with the partially serrated edges, the serrations are wicked sharp.

7. Well built, put it through abuse fella's just don't get stupid with it.



Downside;

1. Thumb jimping is pretty weak, however, the grip tape works.

2. The pocket clip is reallllly tight. Tough to draw from the pocket without bringing your pocket with it.



Overall, I own several, buy it. Its great. It is the one knife I take everyday on duty. I refuse to leave my patrol car without it. Good job Kershaw.

To be honest I was a little taken a back by its size out of the box. This is a serious blade, at first I was really hesitant to wear it in public. I've since gotten use to it. No one has made any comments about it being over the top. This being said, I live in the county side where carrying a large pocket knife is not abnormal.



Two months in, my initial unease has faded. This is a fantastic knife, the grip feels natural and sure, even when wet. It's faster and more reliable than any switch blade could be, and it's legal. It keeps its edge very well, opens perfectly, every time and hypothetically speaking it will do the job if you're ever in a dark alley and need to make a point about the cons of mugging a perfect stranger.*****



It's a beautiful and effective tool, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a larger sized, quick opening pocket knife.



*Two months into owning this knife, I was attacked and put to the ground in a choke hold, when my hand found this knife, you have no idea how relived I was. It opened perfectly and quickly with one hand,

(I was pinned face down) All it took was a minor cut to get the guy off me, I was able to hold him off until help arrived.



For those of you who think it can't happen, be prepared.

this is a very fast assisted open knife. the handles have non slip inserts that are very comfortable. you just have to keep in mind that this s the high carbon model and it will rust very quickly if not oiled frequently. all around great knife and shaving sharp out of the box.

I have owned several Kershaw folders over many years. There is no question that this knife is a great tool, but just knowing some differences might make it a better fit. The clip holds like crazy! so if you are pulling it in and out of your pocket all day it takes some getting used to. The handle texture is like nothing else I've seen, very unlikely to slip out of your hand. But if you put your hand in your pocket it will rub against and that can be irritating. I like that the point is not as narrow as other Kershaws, way more robust. To reiterate, this review is all positive and this knife will perform in every way. I would buy this knife again.

I have owned many knives over the years but this one has to be the best. I also own the Leek and Scallion. I would rank them in order with Blur best, Scallion 2nd and Leek 3rd. They are all better than all the other brands I own. The Blur just fits the hand so well and it is big and solid enough to do all the hard outside work I put it through. It holds an edge better than most and I use the clip for money as I don't like it hanging from the clip and can get to it much easier in my pocket. The speed safe on this is great. I have put this knife through it all summer now using it from cutting cabbage, broccoli, and other veggies out of the garden to edging my sidewalk with it, and every other job imaginable. I throw it in the sink with the dishes and wash it along with the rest. I have sharpened it one time and it has held that edge very well. But as an all around sharpener (I have several styles by several different manufacturers) this little gem is hands down THE BEST! Otherwise I would not have spent a week tracking this one down on the internet after all my local suppliers were "out of stock" or had moved on to more expensive less useful models. The thing folds up and goes in my pocket, it also has a handy hole for a lanyard which my new one is on. It does a great job on my chefs knives, my hunting knife and my serrated kives as well. It's easy for my big fingers to hold on to and steady on the edge of the counter when I am sharpening. I bought an extra one to put away in case this one gets "lost" or I give mine away to a friend. (In case you can't tell I really like it and would buy another one in a minute flat!) Smith's PP1 Pocket Pal Multifunction Sharpener

This is a great sharpener it makes knives super sharp but not quite razor sharp it is much better than Smith's Abrasives 2 Step Knife Sharpener, that sharpener gets knives just as sharp as it has the same angles to the ceramic part of the sharpener; but that uses rods which get loose and end up rolling as you draw your knife through it and don't sharpen your knife. Also this is easier to get a blade into the ceramic sharpening part. This also includes a serrated knife sharpener, and this works well but i can't say much for it as it is the first serrated knife sharpener i have ever used.



i recommend pulling the blade through the carbide part 10 times using semi heavy to medium force, the using the ceramic part about 10 times using medium force then lighting up to about as light as you can get by the 10th stroke

skip the carbide part if your knife is already adequately sharp, only use the carbide part if your knife i dull or damaged as it takes off a lot of steel

I have been sharpening my own knives for years using the Gatco system. Normally I wouldn't trust my knives to anything but me and my Gatco. However, I do tend to spend a lot of time out in the woods and having a portable knife sharpener is an important part of my gear.



I was initially very hesitant to try this style of sharpener since the sharpening angle is fixed and not determined by me. Having now used the Smith's sharpener on several of my hunting and camping knives, I am recommending it to all my friends and have even purchased one for my hunting partner.



Great product, and I would buy it even at twice the price.

Good sharpener but with caveats.



Positives: small size, carbide cutters are very effective at removing metal, ease of use (no special techniques)



Negatives: small contact point on the blade (see below, not very stable if much pressure is applied



Due to the small contact point with the blade, pressure is directed onto a very small portion of the blade. This pressure will vary as you slide the blade through the sharpener (either as a result of nicks in the blade or human error/ inability to maintain perfect pressure). As a result you will end up with a slightly wavy edge to knife. Over time this waviness will likely be exaggerated.



I would say this sharpener is okay for a "quick and dirty" field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife, but I would not use it on fine blade steel or good kitchen knives.

Bought this sharpener on a whim while at a local sporting goods store. I badly dulled one of my favorite pocket knives from over use. Impatiently, I tore open the package in my car and went to work. I figured that if the sharpener was bogus, I could just walk right back into the store and return it.

The only problem I encountered with this sharpener is that it does not seem to work as well with thicker blades. It does work but it is a little more difficult and the carbides seem to wear the blade down a bit more which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I would not use this sharpener with a very high quality or expensive knife. I would say this sharpener is perfect for those times when a fast field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife is required.

But as an all around sharpener (I have several styles by several different manufacturers) this little gem is hands down THE BEST! Otherwise I would not have spent a week tracking this one down on the internet after all my local suppliers were "out of stock" or had moved on to more expensive less useful models. The thing folds up and goes in my pocket, it also has a handy hole for a lanyard which my new one is on. It does a great job on my chefs knives, my hunting knife and my serrated kives as well. It's easy for my big fingers to hold on to and steady on the edge of the counter when I am sharpening. I bought an extra one to put away in case this one gets "lost" or I give mine away to a friend. (In case you can't tell I really like it and would buy another one in a minute flat!)

This is a great sharpener it makes knives super sharp but not quite razor sharp it is much better than Smith's Abrasives 2 Step Knife Sharpener, that sharpener gets knives just as sharp as it has the same angles to the ceramic part of the sharpener; but that uses rods which get loose and end up rolling as you draw your knife through it and don't sharpen your knife. Also this is easier to get a blade into the ceramic sharpening part. This also includes a serrated knife sharpener, and this works well but i can't say much for it as it is the first serrated knife sharpener i have ever used.



i recommend pulling the blade through the carbide part 10 times using semi heavy to medium force, the using the ceramic part about 10 times using medium force then lighting up to about as light as you can get by the 10th stroke

skip the carbide part if your knife is already adequately sharp, only use the carbide part if your knife i dull or damaged as it takes off a lot of steel

I have been sharpening my own knives for years using the Gatco system. Normally I wouldn't trust my knives to anything but me and my Gatco. However, I do tend to spend a lot of time out in the woods and having a portable knife sharpener is an important part of my gear.



I was initially very hesitant to try this style of sharpener since the sharpening angle is fixed and not determined by me. Having now used the Smith's sharpener on several of my hunting and camping knives, I am recommending it to all my friends and have even purchased one for my hunting partner.



Great product, and I would buy it even at twice the price.

Good sharpener but with caveats.



Positives: small size, carbide cutters are very effective at removing metal, ease of use (no special techniques)



Negatives: small contact point on the blade (see below, not very stable if much pressure is applied



Due to the small contact point with the blade, pressure is directed onto a very small portion of the blade. This pressure will vary as you slide the blade through the sharpener (either as a result of nicks in the blade or human error/ inability to maintain perfect pressure). As a result you will end up with a slightly wavy edge to knife. Over time this waviness will likely be exaggerated.



I would say this sharpener is okay for a "quick and dirty" field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife, but I would not use it on fine blade steel or good kitchen knives.

Click here for more information I am in the Army and currently serving in Iraq. Being here I have received several different models of multi-tools by manufacturers such as SOG, Leatherman, Kershaw, and Gerber. This particular Gerber is by far my favorite and the only one that I brought from home. It contains the tools that I need most, and is at a size that I find comfortable to wear on my belt and it's being there does not interfere with the fit of my body armor or other equipment. I'm amazed at how often the scissors come in handy too. I thought that a goofy thing to have until I got this tool, and now I cannot imagine not having them handy. The pliers are just the right size for most jobs, and the cutters are just fine for cutting the bands off of equipment when needed. For my money Gerber has a winner here and if I ever lose this one I will replace it with the same model. Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport Multi-function Tool

The Gerber MP400 is a great tool... and it's just that... a tool! It's small/compact which you can take everywhere. It's great for occasional use as well as moderate everyday use. If you're looking for something for heavy use, get a regular tool box. For a multi-tool in the $20-$30 range it's economical and gets the job done.



Pro's - it's one hand opening of the pliers is nice and the locking feature for all the other tools is a must have, especially the blade. The grip design allows you to grip down hard without hurting your hand unlike some of the other flip over multi-tools like the Leatherman's.



Con's - the tool can be a bit more sturdy. It has some flex in the design especially when turning a tight screw. The material used to manufacture the tool is a bit soft. The pliers are manufactured with such precision that you need to oil it occassionally. Thank goodness for WD-40!



Option - the included Gerber sheath is a belt-loop design. I recommend one from Ripoffs (Model CO-12 or CO-13). Its clip-on design makes it easy to get on and off your belt (without pulling down your pants).



Conclusion - if you want a tool with all the features to get you through your day, you will not be disappointed with the MP400. If you're looking for the Rolls-Royce of multi-tools, this is not it. This is the Chevy pickup with the rust spots still driving down the street.

The Gerber Compact sport is one of the best knives I have ever used from the one-hand opening to the locking blades. With the flick on your wrist, you are ready to do anything. The advantage between this and Lethermen is that you don't have to dig for your pliers. The Gerber knife is also good if you have kids because they can't get into it. With the pliers in the handles, it is next to impossable to open. The disagvantages Gerber are the price, and it is harder to get to the tools in your knife.

I have two Gerber 400's, one with the tool kit. They are superb examples of size efficiency. The knives hold an edge better than most such tools. As such, they are HARDER steel than some other brands. Hard, thin steel do not like twisting. Buy a cheap kitchen knife [...] for pumpkins, or use a 'pumpkin saw' (which incidentially will also break if twisted).Other than that, the only advice I would give is to keep the 400's well-oiled. The sliding mechanism can bind- especially if used outdoors- unless you keep it oiled. This is explained in the flyer that comes with the tool.BTW- Gerber will replace broken knife blades.

This is my third one over the past ten years as I have lost the other ones while working. I own and operate a handyman service and this product is indispensible. I have tried other products and they do not compare. It is small, sleek and convenient, especially in tight areas.

Compared to the Swiss Army SwissTool, which I also own, this tool has many drawbacks: It needs oil. The pliers have a lot of friction even when oiled -- they don't swing open easily, I need to use two hands to pull them apart after each motion. The scissors are really tiny, almost bizarrely so. It's kind of ugly. No ruler, even though there's space for one. The can opener doesn't retract well, so it exposes you to a sharp edge whenever you are using the pliers -- a really poor bit of design.



There are some real positives too. The tools are the right size, and the screwdrivers seem exceptionally solid. The half-serrated blade is a feature some people will like, and it's fairly (not exceptionally) sharp. The non-glare matte finish may please some people, and makes the tool easy to hold firmly. The plier tips are strong and precisely machined, suitable for both fine and medium-sized work.



If the price is low (I paid twenty), it's a decent purchase. But it's certainly NOT the best multi-tool available.

This is a sweet multitool, the only disadvantage of which is it needs regular lubrication for the one-handed opening to work really easily. It would also be nice to have a ruler engraved on the side like other models.



The selection of blades is decent; as another reviewer noted, the scissors turn out to be really helpful. I also like the wire-snips for cutting small cable-ties and those annoying plastic tags that retailers put into sweaters.

Click here for more information wonderful, truly wonderful. it looks great, keeps its edge depending on stress output, has a good feel, is well balanced, flips open with the greatest of ease(I would recommend flicking it open often when first getting it to make the withdrawl very smooth), and looks cool over-all. It is much longer than you would anticipate. The one and only flaw is that the blade was only painted black. So when I kept it in my pocket with my keys, it now has plenty of little dots and one long scratch which are anything but un-noticeable. To conclude, I would recommend it with the up most sincerity.

I was looking for an attractive knife for carrying around and this is perfect.. The other folding stiletto with the pearl handle is a little too plasticky and cheap-looking.



The black aluminum handle is lightweight and the blade long. It's very solid; the blade doesn't wiggle at all. Unfortunately the blade arrived about as sharp as as a sewing scissor. I literally couldn't cut myself with it no matter how hard I sliced. The blade is cut, but it's just rounded at the very edge. Of course, it's supposed to be a stabbing knife (and the tip is very sharp).



This is a good pocket knife to carry for defense but it would probably break if you tried using it regularly in the wilderness or for cutting boxes.



I don't own any other real knives and was surprised that the steel is merely finished black; it's not black straight through. Sharpening the knife scraped off nearly all of the finish. It may be possible to sharpen it without scratching the finish if you use one of those locked-angle sharpening systems for precision. I'm somewhat concerned about the durability of the steel without the protective finish.

The knife has its own great quality for itself. the price cant beat beat for what you get. The whole hold of it is also great your assured a nice firm grip to hold it to and to get straight to the point it can cut amazingly. once again great value for what you would pay for a more expensive folding knife.

Just recieved the knife in the mail today and am fairly pleased with it for what I paid. The one thing that disappointed me right out of the box, is it wasnt the same knife. It had a different handle but im ok with that. The knife blade looks great, and is razor sharp. The thumb stud feels like its very sturdy, and the blade isnt loose in any way. The one thing that I dont like is the plastic pieces that are on the outside of the knife. They are cheap, light weight and a little bit loose. Other than that, very pleased.

This knife came from the factory with an edge on it so sharp it could shave hair. The point on this knife is extremely sharp, perfect for penetration. It has a great weight and feel to the knife. The lock is great, and the knife can be opened with one hand if need be, with practice. Overall, great knife for a really excellent price!

This is a nice knife for the price. Mine, unlike the other reviewers, came very sharp all the way around. This knife is very similar to the Cold Steel Ti-Lite which sells for around 90$. When i bought the knife, it was only 5.99. Since then, the price has gone up, which is why i gave it four stars instead of five. For a 6$ knife, it is awesome. For 10$ it is still worth it, just not quite as spectacular as far as value is concerned. The handle is solid, the blade is solid, and the clip is solid. It opens easily and can be drawn with one hand. The lock sticks a tad to begin with, but that goes away with age.

AWESOME BLADE. I LOVE IT. BUT ONCE I GOT IT I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE HOUSE BECAUSE ITS LONG! I don't want the cops breathin' down my neck about how long the blade is and how it could potentially kill a man because it could go in between the ribs. I just it for the house as an everyday knife. It mostly cuts open my mail or packages that I order from amazon. Worth the buy, pointy tip, not bad on the sharpness when it comes out the box, I would suggest to get it sharpened though after a while. All in all GREAT BUY! FAST SHIPPING TOO!

This knife is light and has a 5 inch handle + 3.8 inch blade. Comes out to be around 9 inch knife which is pretty darn comfortable. Those little up 'n down extensions on the blade prevent the knife from slipping out. The knife has a very very very fine point (the front of the blade). I poked a truck tire like it was butter. This knife is great for self defense (poking), but not for cutting stuff like bread.



This knife is great for the money, but don't expect to be as strong as a throwing knife. I think if you bend the blade hard enough, it will break.





Nevertheless, I would recommend this item as an easy to hide and carry self defense.

this blade is,by far, my best blade. shipping was weeks earlier than it told me. When I read the Product Descriptions and Reviews of knives being sold here on Amazon, a lot of times it makes me laugh because they are so full of misinformation. I guess this is because the sellers and reviewers are not knife dealers and don't know that much about knives in general. But hey, that's ok, because everybody is entitled to their opinion. When rating a knife, I don't try to compare a $10.00 knife with a $100.00 knife. This is a good knife for the money and is all metal construction with aluminum handles. I found this knife was sharp enough to slice strips off of a sheet of paper.

I purchased this knife to use at work and I am very impressed with the quality. very cheap compared to most other knives that I looked at. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable yet affordable tool.

My knife was delivered VERY quickly, and functions near perfect. The only problem is, the screws holding the handle together have become loose, and one has fallen out. This was fixed with a small screwdriver but could pose problems for other customers.

this knife is great, especially for the price. it is a relatively simple design, yet it holds up nicely. i really like the tanto style blade. as others have stated in their reviews, it is a good idea to get some locktite or oil the screws.

I own two of these knives and both have fallen apart within 2 months of purchase. The knife has a good weight, the blade is sharp, and it looks cool. But the screw system used to hold the blade in (spanner) is terrible. The screw comes loose after a few times of opening and closing the blade and most people won't have the specialty tool required to tighten it. Save the hassle and avoid this knife and spend a little more to get something that won't fall apart during normal use.

Razor sharp out of the box, good weight and balance, opens really quick. Basically, if you have 10 bucks and you could do to have a knife, BUY THIS ONE! If I didn't know better, I'd compare it to Gerber, etc.

I was going to purchase a more expensive knife, but didn't need anything fancy and figured I'd try cheap and expendable first. This has actually held up far better than expected for the price and the abuse I've put it through in Iraq. The simple liner lock and thumb stud opening work well and feel solid. The blade arrives a bit rough though and I would highly suggest sharpening it out of the box. Other than that, buy two as you won't be disappointed.



Update: 31 October



I reached for this knife the other day and it literally fell apart in my hands. The screws holding it together vanished and I wound up tossing the remnants. Additionally, over the preceding month the blade would continuously become wobbly due to the screw holding it together coming loose. I'm not sure what tool would be used to tighten this - I used another knife myself. If you have the proper tools, I'd suggest taking it apart and using some lock-tight as others have recommended. It's just more than I care to deal with for a cheap knife and I'll order from a quality brand next time around. Click here for more information I own a set of Henckels knives that are several years old. They are used every day and despite regular honing they were becoming dull. Keeping knives razor sharp is a skill that requires some practice and the right kind of sharpener, and so I was skeptical that one of these quick sharpeners would do a good job at sharpening them, but I decided to give it a try. Does the sharpener make dull knives sharper? It certainly does, in just a few minutes. Does it make them sharp enough for routine use? I would say yes; I am not a professional chef, but I find that I am much happier with the performance of my knives after sharpening. Does it return them to their factory degree of razor sharpness? Unfortunatley, no. I think there is no question that my knives were sharper out of the box than I can achieve with this hand sharpener. But that does not mean that this was a bad purchase. It has restored my knives from being a bit dull to being perfectly adequate for the use they get in my kitchen.If you want to achieve like-brand-new razor sharpness, this sharpener will not do that for you. If you want to bring your dull knives back to a degree of sharpness that will be adequate for 99% of home cooks, this would be a good item to have.

I am the proud owner of 25 Henckels knives, largely due to a consolidation of two households. I was never able to get a truly sharp edge on these knives, regardless of the sharpeners used and I tried many different gizmos using different sharpening techniques. The latest was the motorized "Chef's Choice" using diamond encrusted wheels and magnetized knife guides for the proper sharpening angle. Doing 25 knives took about two hours at least and the result was usually unremarkable. Actually, the knives remained remarkably dull regardless of the effort expended with this noisy gadget. And then I stumbled across the Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener. Somewhat encouraged by the largely positive customer feedback, I bought one and have never looked back. The process is silent, it takes less than one third of the time compared with the "Chef's Choice" and the results are remarkable. The knives slice through the edge of a sheet of paper with no difficulty, tomato skin is no longer a challenge and carving a side of beef or a turkey is a joy. Pulling the knives through the sharpening ports of the Sharpener at first seems to yield nothing, but after the third or fourth pass the steel or ceramic plates engage the knife and impart an amazing edge. Maybe I am over-reacting because all my previous efforts with other sharpeners were overly time consuming and did not yield good results. This one, however, is different. It actually works! Some have said that the gadget does not impart the same edge as a professional sharpening would and that may be true. However, I don't intend to shave with my knives and for demanding kitchen work they are about as sharp as one would need. I think Henckels has done it this time. This is a great sharpener!

This was a gift for my wife who is going to Culinary School and uses Henckel Four Star knives. The two step sharpener works great and is very easy to use. A few strokes in slot 1, then about the same amount of strokes in slot II and the knife is new sharp again. The body of the sharpener is easy to grasp and really feels secure on the table with its rubber feet holding it steady as you run the knife in each of the slots. This sharpener not only works great but also looks great with its stainless steel body and frame.

While I have a great set of Henckels for home use, I bought this more to use on my work knives as a bartender. At work we have cheap generic knives that are highly abused.It took some time with the steel wheels to clean up the edge on the cheap knives, much more than "5 passes", but once I got the edge down and nicks out, the ceramics gave them terrific edge. Almost a month later the edges are holding up great despite heavy abuse and constant runs through the dishwasher (dishwashers take the edge off of knives - hand wash), since I have no control over the abuse my coworkers dish out.I am really looking forward to using these to clean up my personal knives out home, as soon as I get them out of storage.Highly recommended.

I give this thing an A+. I have a set of 14 year old Henkle four stars that I have never sharpened with anything other than the steel. I needed something more. This thing worked very, very well for me and the price is not bad at all. Needless to say my knives are now as sharp as when they were new. I'm pleased with my purchase.

This sharpener worked fine for touching up the edges on my knives (4 star Henckels and some random no-names). For edges that have a correct existing bevel and are dull but not abused, restores a fine edge fast. If the existing bevel is too steep or otherwise messed up this may not work (it's not a grinder).
